Everything you need to know for ordering a shirt is above this point.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below this point is old stuff which I left up in case anyone is interested in reading it.

    Purchase Poll Results:
It looks like we'll be doing about 25 of the Workman and 15 of the Navyman! I'll get definite numbers once it's time to place orders in a few days.

    Design Survey Results:
There have been 50(!) respondents to the design survey, and the results are pretty conclusive. However, only a few of the options received more than 55% of the vote. SO, I'd like to do two group buys, each with a different shirt:

    Workshirt 1 - The Workman
(This one is the winning design and will be made first)
    It will have...
Large open pocket with triangular topped cigarette pocket (think Engineered Garments workshirts)
    Curved back yoke
    Standard barrel cuff
    NO inside chest pocket
    Optional collar tab/neck strap
    Selvage plackets and gussets
Fisheye buttons (MOP is limited but available to those who want it, others will be corozo (looks like plastic, comes in different colors), not plastic)
    Standard open workshirt collar
Triple stitching on sides, armholes, yoke, and double elsewhere, except some single stitching on pockets and at neck
This is basically my shirt in the OP, but I don't have triple stitching

    Workshirt 2 - The Navyman
(This shirt will be made second, after the Workman)
    It will have...
Matching pair of USN chest pockets
    Curved back yoke
    Curved cuffs
    Inside chest pocket selvage, hopefully
    Optional collar tab/neck strap
    Selvage plackets and gussets
    Fisheye buttons probably all corozo
    Standard open workshirt collar
Double stitching all around, except some single stitching on pockets and at neck

So, I hope you guys are happy with these two shirt options. I thought it would be easier to run two group buys at once, but The Navyman won't be made until the Workman is complete. (Pardon the semi-cheesy names- I needed some way to tell the two apart)

Many of you might have seen my made to measure (MTM) red selvage chambray workshirt that I recently acquired. I got a lot of interest from some of you here as well as on sufu, so I am setting up a group buy with Nathan, the guy who made my shirt. Nathan spent at least a couple decades as a pattern cutter and is now in business for himself making MTM clothing. The construction of my workshirt is impeccable- all single-needle stitching, hand-sewn buttonholes, etc.

Here is a fit pic of my shirt. Detailed photos appear below.

Here's how the group buy will go:
    1. Settle on one single design for all of the shirts via a poll
    2. Decide on color(s) of selvage chambray you want your shirt(s) to be.
    3. You send me your measurements (I will post instructions when the time comes to do this) based on a shirt(s) that you like the fit of. Also, payment will need to be sent via paypal at this time. Nathan will need some money up front to purchase the fabric, and I will hold the rest until the shirts are done.
    4. I send all of your measurements to Nathan, who will make all of the shirts himself. It usually takes him about 7 days to make 10 shirts, including making the pattern, cutting the fabric, and sewing the shirt. He will send the shirts to me in batches of 10.
    5. Nathan sends a big box of shirts to me, and I package them up individually and send them to you Priority, insured, with delivery confirmation. The total turnaround time per batch of 10 is about 2-2.5 weeks.

    Price
As it stands, the shirts will be somewhere close to $190 shipped, but it partly depends on which chambray fabric(s) you choose. Also, international shipping will be probably $10-20 more. Normal price for a shirt like this is usually ~$220, so we'll be saving about 10-15% by doing a group buy. This may not seem like a huge savings, but consider the price for what you get- a beautiful selvage chambray workshirt that fits you perfectly for around (or just under) $200. Plus, Nathan is restructuring his business and isn't interested in individual orders at the moment, unless you are a previous customer. This is pretty much the only way to get a shirt made by him at the moment. So, I thought I'd help you guys out if you are interested. I'm not really making any money off the deal- this is mostly just for fun.

    Chambray colors
Nathan is checking to see what is available, and I have asked him to look into red, white, and dark grey selvage chambray especially. We can do an indigo if you guys really want, but I thought I'd at least concentrate on the other colors since there are a million indigo chambrays out there. As it stands, you will be able to choose between whichever colors are available, or you can get multiple shirts if you want.

    Design
OK, let's get to the good stuff! I am working on an online survey for the voting on this, but before I post a link to it, I wanted to make sure I have all of the feasible options down. Take a look at the photos below and let me know if there is anything else you would like to see in the survey. The design must be the same for all shirts.

There will be one design for all of the shirts. Design options are below. You will get to vote on that design soon. Tell me if I am missing any other design ideas.
Keep in mind that we are not designing a western shirt or a dress shirt.

    Chest Pockets
    - Large open pocket with triangular topped cigarette pocket (think Engineered Garments workshirts)

    - Matching pair of standard USN chambray open pockets
    [IMG]

    - Matching pair of larger flapped pockets (like some 45rpm and Haversack shirts)

    - Large open pocket with flapped cigarette pocket
    [IMG]

    Shirt Yoke
    - Straight back yoke
Couldn't find a decent photo, but you get the idea...

    - Curved back yoke
    [IMG]

    - Shaped yoke (this might look silly if we do any pockets other than USN pockets
    [IMG]
I'll add the option to select this with or without ventilation holes.

    Cuffs
    - Standard barrel cuff (this is my shirt)

    - Something curved (this pic is from Mister Freedom) but with buttons, not snaps
    [IMG]

    Inside Chest Pocket
    - Yes
    - No

    Collar Tab
    [IMG]
    - Yes
    - No

    Selvage Accents
    - Inside of both sides of the shirt placket
    [IMG]

    - Gussets
    [IMG]

    Buttons
    - Two-hole fisheye buttons (think Engineered Garments workshirts), probably plastic
    [IMG]

    - Some kind of flat plastic or MOP buttons (I can see what Nathan has)

    Collar
    - Standard workshirt open collar (you'll have the option to customize size on this)

    Stitching
    - Double stitching all around, except some single stitching on pockets and at neck
    - Triple stitching on sides, armholes, yoke, and double elsewhere, except some single stitching on pockets and at neck

    Stitching Color
    - Contrast stitching (i.e., white)
    - Tone stitching (whatever the chambray color is)

Shirt looks really great on you. I'd probably be in if it was white or some other non blue/gray color (i've got plenty of those).

Very nice. I've been curious about a green (possibly blue-green) chambray, if such a thing exists. Also, mop cat's eye buttons are a must. I like the way they chip and age on a chambray.

I am in for indigo, red, possibly a brown. What about indigo, with like a brown weft. Or maybe an unbleached weft, so sort of yellowish weft?

    Shirt looks nice.

Also, antique wood buttons are pretty nice,... Uh, really only for the indigo colored chambray though.

The funny thing is I looked at that fit picture like I need that shirt a couple days back. I love the shirt the cut looks real precise and nicely cut, but the price is the only thing that stirs me the wrong way. Poor college student status isn't too fun right now. All in all good stuff!

    zissou, that shirt looks awesome!

How about short sleeved? There are lots of long sleeved chambrays in all sorts of colors and styles but not many short sleeved that I've seen. I think it could be pretty cool.

I can understand, JKISSI. For those guys used to buying EG workshirts at full retail, though, this is a pretty good deal... There will be a few colors available to choose from when you all have your shirt(s) made, so you don't need to worry about it being just one color. I'm looking for suggestions for colors other than red, white, indigo, and dark grey at this point. Please give me other ideas for design elements if you think I've missed anything important. I will be putting up an online poll in a few days so you can all vote on the shirt design. Toruokada- for now, we are going to do a longsleeved shirt, since FW is coming up. I can plan for another group buy this winter for a short sleeved shirt for next SS.

That's an incredible shirt and not a bad price at all, though I'm not sure I can swing it. We've got a baby on the way...and I somehow I doubt MTM workshirts get priority.

Love the options and detail pics though!

great shirt, too many options. Save yourself the hassle and offer a stock, trademark style, MTM lengths/widths, and then a choice of colors. Would be much, much, much easier and people would still be happy.

also, price is fair, IMO, considering the fabric content and workmanship. If you worked out an original design with the MTM scheme, I'd buy one to support you guys.

Thanks, man. All of the options listed in the OP are for everyone to vote on to determine the single design for all of the shirts. When the shirts are made, the only options will be size (i.e., your measurements) and color. I thought it would be fun to give everyone the chance to have a hand in the design of the shirt. If no one votes, I'll just design it myself [IMG] Poll coming soon!

That's a genius justification! Although, it's the one I plan to use with the wife when I make my pitch for a new watch soon....

Thanks for the good wishes! I appreciate it. We find out the sex next week...if it's a boy, your argument may hold some water.

^The argument should still hold if it's a girl :p

If possible, I'd like to see a black/indigo chambray. Like black weft over indigo warp or something?
