Mr. Sid - any experiences?

I've seen this brand "Mr. Sid" in Filene's Basement quite a few times. Today I tried on a wool/cashmere blazer (Loro Piana fabric logo) and liked it. I might go back to buy it tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with this brand? Anything to watch out for?

I had thought Mr. Sid was a store based on what I've seen in Filene's. There have been things like Incotex slacks for sale with Mr. Sid's retail price tags. So, must be a relatively high-end store.

Mr. Sid's in Newton Mass, I think. I've been once or twice. Good quality independent men's store. A little more Italian-ish than the New England Ivy league type shops. But perfectly respectable. And to my mind, much more desirable to shop there then a large dept. store.

It is a lot more Italian in style than any other store in the Boston area. The merchandise is decent, including their house lines, though I think that the buyers are less than inspired, perhaps a reflection of their generic rich/slightly interested in Continental style, but with more money than taste, client base. Honestly, though, unless you are a real fan of Brioni sportswear, I think that Louis Boston (which, perhaps ironically) is a much better place to shop than Mr. Sid's.

House label suits and coats are almost uniformly awful and overpriced. Almost always fused, which removes the thing from consideration when they try to get $500 for a suit at FB.

And yet, at the same time, Mr. Sid's wares are a bit odd--too continental for the Ivy set and too stodgy to be interestingly fashion-forward. (HF with lesser workmanship, if you will.) If one isn't ready for Louis (I mean as to styling--in terms of its pricing, I surely never will be.) I think one is better off at Andover or J. Press. Some individual Mr. Sid pieces that may turn up at FB's or elsewhere may be worth picking up, depending on the quality/markdown, of course.
