Dear Folks:

The siblings are giving me an iPod or the equivalent for my birthday.  They'll pay up to the mini level, and I can of course spend more.

The only thing that keeps me from getting one is that I like the radio and iPods don't.

I am told that you can get an aftermarket attachment for some iPods but that seems cumbersome.

I've glanced at models by rio and iRiver, but the radio capability seems to come at a big cost -- much less data storage.

Any recommendations? Or should I just get an iPod and then get a tiny personal radio for the gym?

mack11211,

I don't think the price premium for FM radio is all that big these days, and prices for most non-Apple devices keep coming down. I use an iRiver IFP-series player (515MB model) that has a very decent FM tuner for its size. I am happy with it for the most part (the placement of some buttons could be better). It also comes in a 1GB size.

If you're looking for a hard drive-based player, perhaps others can recommend some models.

Regards,
Tony
