i keep thinking people are refering to THIS Crash.
    anyone seen it?

God, did that suck ass. I remember when it came out and every pretentious nob had to say how compelling it was. Whatever.

I'm generally a Cronenberg fan, and sometimes a JG Ballard fan, and I own the movie on VHS, bought it back when it first came out. The film is gloriously empty. Probably a better movie than the new Crash, though I sort of liked that too, since I'm not turned off by its heavy-handed nature.

Car crashes as sexual metaphor, sex with scar tissue, James Spader (of course), and James Dean. What more could one want?

Ken Russel's part of Aria was also thematically in the same vein.

At least it was a lot better than the prior ones (proof that NOT everything Danny Elfman and Tim Burton chrun out turns to gold).

bb was better than the schumacher travestys (a mythical yogi has taught me how to banish them from my mind), but i can't think of one aspect of nolan's batman that is superior to burton's.

bale is rubbish, he puts on an idiotic deep voice every time he puts on the suit, and that's about as 3 dimensional as his acting gets. morgan freeman is playing the same role as in shawshank, mixed with Q out of james bond, contrived as fuck. little joey potter from down the creek playing a DA, are you out of your mind??? she looks about 15, holmes has nothing on basinger and pfeiffer. liam neeson was the most charisma-less super villain i have ever seen (including schwarz as mr freeze), can anyone honestly remember his name without looking on imdb, or his motives for that matter? they managed to remove any semblance of 'gothic' from gotham city, it looked like singapore for gods sake. michael caine should stick to playing austins dad, his cockney schtick does not work as a butler. and bollocks to getting to the deep psychological roots of batman's vigilantiism - he fell down a well and saw some bats, not deep, just crap. snd that sodding line - "why do we fall down bruce? so we can learn to pick ourselves back up again..." - a line so nauseatingly sappy shit and insipid, they saw fit to use it TWICE.

cillian murphy was, admittedly, good as sandman, but the chracter was given no history or room to breathe.

    yup, batman begins blew hard.

Sex scenes between Ballard and his secretary were filmed but cut because the director felt the actors' chemistry was too good, contravening the nature of all the other relationships in the film.

I'm with Aportnoy on this one. I regretted seeing that movie.

Also, pretty much anything with Ben Stiller in it, I'm not a fan.

Have not seen KK yet... I like Jackson's early stuff too much (and sorry about this but I don't really care for LoTR).
Now Bad taste, THAT is a good Peter Jackson film. Or even better, Braindead!

    braindead is pure class:

"that's my mum you pissing on..."

"i kick arse for the lord!"

bad taste is good as well, i like the bit when they shoot the sheep with the bazooka, and when he swaps his brains over with a squished seagull. lord of the rings was pretty much rubbish.

    Edit:

Saw Hostel last night - predictable and rtaher silly, however, two points.
First film to disturb my stomach in years - the eyeball part and the sight of the scalpel. I am sensitive to needles and surgical equipment.
Did anyone else recognise that Japanese client that the Paxton character asks if it was good? It drove me nuts for a bit, then I saw the credits. It was Takashii Miike! That was a good little side joke - "You could spend all your money in there!"[IMG]

Yeah, they go on a good bit about him in the commentary, he was quite the influence. Credits: Takashi Miike as Miike Takashi. Like I said on the other thread, plot wasn't great, but it was just believable enough, and the mood was so well set, that it freaked me out. Especially the eye thing :shudder:

Just for people interested in watching Peter Jackson's Braindead, the movie is known as Dead Alive in the U.S. Watch it, it's great for a laugh. I remember seeing it in my forensic anthropology class at Cal. This was a student run low unit class run by some hot chicks with a very morbid obsession with bones and the dead. They played this movie on the last day of class and it was great (the movie had korean subtitles which made the viewing experience better for some reason).

Most overrated movie for me was Crash. I know a lot of people liked it but I didn't (my personal opinion of course so I won't bash the movie here).
