Mouthwash?

Any recommendations?

I've used Listerine in the past and honestly all it does is burn my mouth. Must be the alcohol or something else in it. I'd like to experiment with something else. I just got a bottle of Crest Pro-Health which I'm really starting to like - it's alcohol free and doesn't burn at all. I've seen a bunch of other brands at the local drug stores, and I've heard of yet more that are available online.

Up for anything that's based on sound science. Goals are the usual: healthy teeth, thumbs-up breath, killing the bad bacteria and keeping alive the good bacteria, etc.

I've also seen a lot of "whitening" mouthwashes but I'm skeptical about whether these "whiten" any more than, say, a glass of water.

Lastly, some of the best mouthwashes I've used are the kinds supplied at upscale hotels or resorts that I've stayed at in the past. I've always been curious who makes these and where you can get them. I'm not too humble to admit that I've pilfered a few extra on occasion to take home because I loved them so much.

My dentists have always told me that mouthwash is bad for your mouth - it dries your mouth, which promotes more bacteria, and makes your breath even worse. It can also make your teeth more sensitive, and cause your gum line to recede.

I always thought the burning sensation while using listerine was a good thing. It meant it was working.

Yeah, I like the burning. Man up!

I use Biotene toothpaste (no SLS, which hopefully helps with my canker sore problem) on a Sonicare, then Cool Mint Listerine, though not for a whole minute or whatever, then rinse with/drink some water to rehydrate my mouth, then I have a prescription mouthwash for the canker sores (which really seems to have helped).

yeah i cant help but think theres added **** in moutwashes and toothpaste (like sugar) so your teeth arnt as healthy so you have to go spend money at the dentist..
i like the old fashion baking soda/hydrogen peroxide technique, mix it into a paste. its all natural and it burns like **** so it must be 'working'. the peroxide gets to work on the germs and the soda acts like an adhesive and helps to whiten teeth.

Baking soda is very harsh on your teeth and will turn them grey over the long run.

I use Oasis, a moisturizing mouthwash recommended by my dentist. It actually seems to work and is mild. I also like Odol from Germany. It's a concentrate that one puts in water. It's very fresh.

Yeah, it used to be awful and often debilitating, but it's been pretty well under control for a while now. The worst part of the whole thing was that most doctors and dentists still have no idea what they're dealing with (some even think it's herpes, ugh) and recommend stupid stuff that doesn't work. Luckily I was referred to the head of the U.Washington dental school and he was up on the latest research.

Good to hear your alright. Canker sores feel like being stabbed inside of your mouth.

I use Listerine original. It's the only thing that can totally obliterate the smell of cigars on your breath, plus the burn wakes me up.

Don't use mouthwash at all. They make food and drink taste funny for too long afterward, and don't think they do much.

Brush, floss, and use a copper tongue scraper from healthandyoga.com. Works well for me.

I just brush my tongue and have never had a bad breath problem. (Well, at least I don't think I've ever had one, but there haven't been any complaints.
