I recently came across this great photography book called "Yosemite in the Sixties", by Glen Denny. A lot of good stuff inside if you're into this kind of thing (rock climbing, outdoor clothing, etc.). You can see a lot of the photos on his site, though the book shows better versions where you can make out more details like the boots and such. Amazon has it for under $40: http://www.amazon.com/Glen-Denny-Yos.../dp/0979065909

Some of the better ones: http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/107.html (this one is on the cover of the 2nd ed.) http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/039.html (2nd favorite, after the first) http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/115.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/019.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/032.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/027.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/034.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/049.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/043.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/082.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/078.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/076.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/070.html http://glendenny.com/Portfolios/063.html (p.s. We should avoid displaying the images here out of respect for the photographer's rights.)

One of my first jobs was at a Hiking and Climbing shop. One of the coolest jobs I've ever had except for what I do now. We sold a line of Clothing and Gear from a small manufacturer in Vermont called Class 5.
Daiki and spoke of this manufacturer and he said he has taken a lot of inspiration from them, such as the Mountain Parka.

Robin,

Thanks for the pics, sure wish I had done those climbs.

Great stuff, part of my youth. Yvon Chouinard, a pioneering climber of the era was one of my heroes....he went on to found Chouinard Mountaineering which morphed into Black Daimond Mountaineering, creating some very innovative gear.....way ahead of its time. He also founded Patagonia, the ubiquotous outdoor clothing company. Yvon is one passionate dude.

I was climbing in Yosemite (fall 2007) and attended the photo exhibition opening (which accompanied the book's release) with the other monkeys. I live in Brooklyn but at heart I'm a Yosemite dirtbag: for the past 14 years I've spent a few months a year in Yosemite climbing.
Yosemite dirtbags haven't changed much over the decades: leave it to the aesthetics of B&W photography to transform the grovelers! There's nothing more comfortable and of authentic character as beat-out climbing clothes that you live in everyday.
Great pics.
