Spoiler Alarm: the Ducati looks like a fat ant from the front IMO.

Not sure I like the more and more aggressive styling of the motorbikes these days, too many edges and no real flowing lines.

@gnatty8 it's a 2017 Yamaha SCR950. The bike was produced with the same engine as the Bolt with a sportier, "scrambler" subframe.

I can't give it many accolades other than it's a HOG. Quite heavy (550 lbs), underpowered for a V-twin (51hp), and turning can be improved. But it's my first bike and I'm really coming around to it, I get comments all the time whenever I park it and most people are shocked when I say it's a 2017 bike. If you're looking for one they're heavily discounted everywhere.
FWIW, Cycle World liked your bike way more than you do...
“But Yamaha has been making a habit lately of building incredibly fun, amazingly affordable machines that make you just want to get out and ride. After spending a solid day in the saddle of the SCR950 riding around the mountains near San Diego, I can report that Yamaha has once again nailed the less-is-more formula.”

^ I remember reading that review when I was looking for a bike, but after taking the Thurxton for a ride, I was like :bounce2:

I like the looks of that Yamaha. Wish it was liquid cooled and had anti-lock brakes. If BMW would make a classic bike like that (basically a R9T but with a smaller engine), I'd replace my 18 yr old F650 in a sec. It's suffered in CA's sun and salty air, but it's tough to get rid of it when it gets 55-95 mpg.

Btw, sorry to see that your bike was stolen and otherwise vandalized, UC. I've parked mine on the street for about 4 of my 12 yrs in SF and haven't had any trouble. It's never even been knocked over.

Edit: a well-cared for old G650 xcountry might be an option.

Anyone ridden a Cake? I'm considering an electric motorcycle as a daily commuter, and I like this one:

That's a really expensive way to go ~50 miles at a time. Also looks especially stealable.

Yeah, the light weight would be a pro and a con. One strong person could probably lift it up into a truck. In high crime areas, it'd need to be locked to something like a bike. The price is super high too. If it was under $5000, I'd seriously consider it. But at about three times that, it doesn't seem worth it. Maybe in a few years if they can scale up manufacture, the price will come down. Currently it uses no stock parts from other bikes. I also wish it had a belt drive. But it'd be great for a daily commute that doesn't involve highways. And I like how it doesn't try to look like a regular motorcycle.

Also, has anyone heard of Christini bikes? They apparently take Hondas and add a shaft drive to the front wheel to make it AWD. Supposed to be very helpful for traction. They make bikes for the military. I like this one, but it's overkill as an urban commuter:

I'd be afraid to commute on this. At least in a petrol powered motorcycle you can rev the engine to ward off cars. This thing will silently take you to your grave...or at least the ER.

I'm considering getting a BMW G310GS. This would be my first motorcycle, so I'm trying to find something relatively cheap and not too powerful. I like the looks and it gets a lot of good reviews online.

I haven't been paying attention lately...but that looks pretty neat.

I'd also look towards the honda 500s, especially if you don't actually need an ADV bike. Before I decided to buy a car, I really wanted a CB 500f. I think @lawyerdad might still have one.

Not too powerful or expensive (especially now that they have been out for a few years and there is a used market), but more refined and adult sized than a lot of the stereotypical beginner bikes which tend to either be tiny sport bikes or small scale cruisers.
