I think the fact that Nirvana inspired girls to wear baggy flannel shirts and acid wash jeans is enough grounds to declare them the shittiest band of all time.

Interesting: the list (filtered for groups only) goes:

    Beatles
    Rolling Scones
    Beach Boys
    Zep
    Velvet Underground
    U2
    Ramones
    Nirvana
    Who
    Clash

How many of these would you throw out, and what would you put in their places?

Ramones > Clash is a joke. I'd probably toss Ramones, Beach Boys, Nirvana and U2.

The clash are one of the greatest bands of all time. Their music is by far the best of any of the 70s punk scene, and they progressed onward to make even better music exploring other genres(and it sounded good), something extremely hard to pull off. And I don't know where you're getting 'only 2 relevant albums' from. The Clash eponymous(I Fought the Law(for the US version), White Riot, and So Bored with the USA), London Calling(Train In Vain, London Calling, Rudie Can't Fail, and just about every track on the double EP), and Combat Rock(Should I Stay or Should I Go, Rock the Casbah) are 3 of the most relevant albums of all time, and while Sandinista! had no discernible singles, it is a groundbreaking album in itself. If anything, the Clash are one of the most Under-Rated bands of all time, at least in the U.S. As for an answer to the question(most overrated artists): Sublime, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, the Who, Grateful Dead, and all that hipster bullshit(animal collective, arcade fire, and all those bands[actually just the people who like them, not the bands themselves])

Led Zeppelin would be gone. Not enough influence, weak compositions, very weak lyrics (as insignificant as they are to the songs), and are generally uninteresting past Zeppelin II.

    Ramones: hey ho, you go.

Beach Boys? Why? They sing about cars and beaches and women and stuff. They have some nice vocal choruses. Is there more to them or is that about it?

Velvet Underground didn't produce ripe enough fruit, so to speak.

U2 has a constant droning annoyance in almost all their songs. Extra points taken off for Bono being annoying too.

I agree with you on the Clash and I'll glance over the other 'hipster bullshit' but I know you're not fucking with one of the few innovative rock bands out today. [IMG]

Morrissey said that the only truly great British album is Roxy Music's "For Your Pleasure".

Beach Boys, gone, and replace with Sex Pistols. I would personally not include Ramones and Velvet Underground but that's just me.

There is no rational basis for not having the Beach Boys or Velvet Underground.

No, Q, this was top 10 musical groups...not the top five operatic/depressive-groups-best-heard-while-stoned groups of the last 30 years

Seconded. Even in jest such a claim it is preposterous.

Unless ol' Bingey's reliving the reactionary warpath of his youth.
