What would you guys say are the 2 or 3 most essential and/or versatile S/S sport coats?

I recently purchased a jacket similar to the navy one below off of B&S

Next I'm thinking something in a Tan color, but I can't decide if I want linen or cotton. I also don't know if I should get something solid or with a pattern...this herringbone one looks nice.

I'm also considering a seersucker suit. I feel like I could split it up when not wearing as a suit and it would still be somewhat versatile. Thoughts?

# 1 -- a color you like -- a patten and style that would last for years to come

#2 -- would be adaptable to more differnt pant colors --ie: a navy blazer w/ grey, tan, white,
cream, etc. and even jeans

#3 -- could be dressy ( point or spread collar / tie / ps ) -- or dressed down ( button down collar, tie or
not ) -- or very casual ( jeans, kacki's, penny loafers or dock siders , etc.)

I tend to solids and the occasional box plaid for spring. I leave the herringbone and other textures for fall/winter - partly as an accommodation to SoTx weather (hot and humid). My most-worn are a solid off-navy (lighter than navy), and a solid cotton tan jacket, both of which are matchlessly versatile - they both go with nearly every dress shirt in my closet.

As to seersucker - I'm not a fan myself, but I don't think there's a rule against it.

Definitely pick up a seersucker. You're in Nashville, so go to Belk and check out Haspel. It's not "fashion forward", but they invented the seersucker suit and they are cheap. I agree about using the suit as separates -- I do it all the time. Additionally, I know it's a suit and not a sportcoat, but Brooks Brothers has a blue oxford cloth suit for S/S that I'm pretty excited about. Not shipping until late April, though. Should be an interesting change from the usual tan linen/cotton suits.

Online it looks like they're sold out out of most sizes...

I think my plan for seersucker is to wait for the brooks brothers corporate sale and snag the fitzgerald seersucker for $300.

I could also get the Black Fleece seersucker in a really nice grey for $360 if the corporate sale exends to sale items. I'm just not sure how the Black Fleece line fits and if it would be out of style in a couple years because it's too fashion forward.
