Guy today spent 30 minutes on the phone while sitting on a preacher curl machine (luckily there are several so no inconvenience).
Then he did one set of six reps of 70 lbs.
Then he went in reverse, moving over to major muscle groups by doing several bench sets of 95 lbs total (yes, including the bar - that's how it works), punctuated by ten minute breaks.
It was a good day at the gym.

the groups of lifters who spent 1 minute lifting and the next 10 moving around in the gym in a herd, just talking and chatting up.

People (always 2 it seems) doing sets of 50 or so body weight lunges around high traffic areas.

I'm so glad I don't frequent a gym anymore and work out at home. I was really bad at getting angry at people while in the gym, there was a few instances were I actually stopped working out and left because someone bummed me out.
