Dear SF Members,

I would like to ask for advice for a tie that might fit this morning dress of mine. I went for light blue last time but was wondering if there is another option.

For your reference, the white balance of the image (ie. color accuracy) is pretty high, the waistband has an ever so slight blueish tint, but is grey overall in aspect.

Thank you in advance.

Champaign is a sure winner to complete this winner outfit! Light in tone, complementary to the bluish cast of waistcoat, and ceremonial in colour association. Would make it a grenadine though, or moderately textured Shantung.

Yeh shepard checks or various forms of Macclesfield (e.g. houndstooth, windmill / four-point star, PoW) are also nice default choices, in navy with cream, or red and white (if one is on the more dandy side of the spectrum) rather than black and white / black and cream (which wouldn’t do the blueish grey waistcoat justice).

Some may even use a cornflower blue which sits real well against the dark morning coat and cold blue-grey waistcoat.

dear all,

thanks for the suggestions, I am not good with the whole quoting, hence my replies here :)

Occasion: wedding in summer, but I prefer not to have too light a tie, so lined and heavier if possible.
Shirt Color: white, very slight oxford by DJA, not perceptible as such and hence definitely not sporty.
Suppliers: I used Hermes (heavy twill) for a long time, now had things from Shibumi and Vanda SG.

Thank you again for your advice!

ps. re: light blue, what about this?

I think that a grey waistcoat, white shirt and blue tie is too sterile a look. A better option if you really want to wear a white shirt and blue tie would IMHO would be a buff waistcoat. In this first image I just think the combo on the left is a lot better. Ignore the tie knots, I’m just referring to the colours. With a grey waistcoat I really think you need to add some other colours in the shirt and tie.. So for example a blue shirt with contrasting collar and a wine, red or pink tie. These are the only examples I can find on google at the moment but hopefully they illustrate what I’m on about.
