I certainly wouldn't wear guy no. 2's outfit. His waistcoat seems to be sinking to Davy Jones' locker. I say "abandon ship!"

Neither. A rented tailcoat will always fit like crap. Here's the better comparison:

You can see that morning dress is sober and elegant, while white tie is still rakish in spite of its age.

To answer your question, I would lean towards a day wedding, and thus morning dress. But correct white tie is the last king of men's clothing.

(attached Collar) too short/ugly wing pattern, waistcoat too long/wrong type. Hiddeous American ensemble.

Needs to be detached collar, 2.5" preferably Ede & Ravenscroft, and 6 button waistcoat. That no doubt in the photo is also a pre-tie ascot. NEVER.

I agree with some of this (I agree that the collar and ascot are poor) but you are missing the point. Both photos were just quick examples I found on the web and not presented as the finest representations of their type. And yet even as such, it is clear that the morning coat looks more dashing than the white tie. Hold a poll if you think I'm wrong.

If you are holding a state dinner or conducting a symphony, white tie is great. For a wedding, go with the morning coat unless it is clearly an evening affair.

If you are wearing the morning coat, will you have your groomsmen wear the same thing?

You're quite wrong. Morning dress is made for diplomacy and circumstance. White tie is made for dancing, drinking, and getting laid.

I know where you're coming from. Yes the photo is egregious, and I have seen it before somewhere, perhaps from the tuxedo world(mens wearhouse/tux.com whater) brochure in the mall. It's some americanized bastardized version they think looks good.

There was a photo floaring around of one person who wore grey morning dress for this wedding, with db waistcoat if I remember. But since the person is having it bespoke or MTM, I don't think it'd be worth it since it'll only be worn once. But it could be doable in black, with grey waistcoat and bronze ascot. I have a photo I found somewhere of 2 in morning dress, but with black trousers and white(probably silk) waistcoat, but wearing those dreadful "como" wing collar shirts(the groom pulls it off whilst his buddy looks a sap) with the ridiculously too large neckband forzieri ascot.
