Is CJ the next step in terms of something that provide more style but at a close, or closest price point?

Trick question as there isn't anything more stylish than AE's except AE seconds.

Loake is a little more stylish, but the quality is AE or slightly less.

Magnanni? To Boot? More style, less substance. C&J is not what I'd call similar price point.

I'm in with the OP's question too. AE has been a great starting point for me, but most of what I see discussed on the forum is much higher end shoes. Surely someone else is in the value game, but with edgier styling (but not over the top), no?

It's good advice though.

As to OP, perhaps you could explain to us what you mean by "more stylish". What specifically are you looking for in a shoe that AE isn't offering you?

Pretty much many of the non traditional styles that cj, alfred and others offer. AE seems to be very traditional and I already own what might be their most forward shoe.

+1

It's not exactly clear what you mean by more stylish.

In the same price range as AE, there is Loake, Grenson, Barker and others. Do your research on these forums as for the quality of these because they all have different ''lines'' that each have a different quality level.

But seriously, I think as others mentioned, if you want something more fashion forward at that pricepoint the quality will suffer. What you might be looking for are Italian styled shoes rather American or English ones, since they tend to be more sleek.

It doesn't have to be at that price point necessarily. What would be the next step in more Italian stylings then? I don't particularly care for the alden styles.
