I have got a Montblanc 149 fountain pen (classic black and gold) for christmas.

Now my wife wants to give me a pair of matching Montblanc cufflinks (black onyx with gold trimming).

Are they appropriate?

What is your opinion on the Montblanc cufflinks or cufflinks in general.

Cufflinks: good

Montblanc cufflinks: naff.

I am not a fan of showing off brands in my clothing.

I even like quality pens, but I choose Pelikans over Montblancs... most people don't know I have a quality pen anyway.

I think that it can also look like "exagerated matching" having exactly matched pen and cufflinks. Quite anti_-prezzatura, by the way. A nice pen is a nice pen and you can have it with any cufflinks, IMO. My favourite pen is a yellow Waterman, not expensive at all but nice, I think. I have no yellow cufflinks. I have no yellow clothes at all, actually.
By the way, I will refrain from bying any Mont Blanc pen as a friend of mine received quite bad treatment when complaining over a defectuous product at a local Mont Blanc shop.

Exactly what i thought - exagerated matching. Not my style but you know women...

I like the pen though.

I like this word and will be adding it to my vocabulary.

I was given a set of Montblanc cufflinks at Christmas and soon exchanged them. RJman's "naff" descriptor is fairly accurate.

Though I'm hardly a fan of Montblanc, I must say you are lucky to have received a 149 as a gift. It's the only one I've ever thought to covet except for the Hemingway.

As for the cufflinks, I think RJman said it about as well as it can be said.

If you say yes to Montblanc, say yes only to their pens and pen cases.

Incidentally, let me echo what a previous poster said about Montblanc service.

Please, don't judge me to hard!

The languages I use daily are Spanish and English, none of them is my mother tongue, and sometimes I mix them up! Defective is "defectuoso" in Spanish...
When I work the MS Word spelling check normally takes care of this, unfortunately, it does not help me when writing messages on SF...

I agree that obviously Mont Blanc looking cufflinks are hideous. You might as well wear a sandwich board with Mont Blanc written all over it: However, they do produce some rather more attractive ones in simpler and classical designs which are imminently wearable.

For what it's worth, I had a different experience with MB service -- though my problem was with a keychain and not a pen. They took the defective item back, sent it to the factory, and I was, within a couple of weeks, given a brand new replacement.

Any suggestions on what my wife should buy for me regarding cufflinks then...

I would probably be wearing them with a standard (hidden buttons) white formal shirt and black tie.

My preference with formal shirts for black tie is button studs and matching cufflinks. Mont Blanc don't make anything of the sort unfortunately.

Here is a set of Mont Blanc cufflinks in my collection that I am rather fond of. The MOP is extremely thick with a convex finish to the face giving it a great deal of depth.

To the OP: If those aren't the ones you got, please get them . . .
