And watches. I like the ring, though, although I couldn't wear it. I can't get used to wearing rings at all, in any case.

I must admit that I have no experience with their watches or fountain pens but the items that I have bought from them I've been impressed with.

It's not that the fountain pens or watches are necessarily poor, but there are better things out there for the money.

Rings have no moving parts, so quality is a basically a question of materials and finish.

You're paying for the name. I've used BIC pens that wrote better than a Mont Blanc.

Are you joking? Mont Blanc makes mediocre goods and sells them for luxury prices. I can't see ever going to a Mont Blanc boutique and paying retail prices for any Mont Blanc item.

Well in all fairness, I would say that vintage Mont Blanc pens are pretty nice, and if you reduced the price of the current (non-limited edition) fountain pens by about a third, they would certainly be worth a look.

I find Mont Blanc accessories to be a bit . . . how shall I put this, "Robb Reportish", if you know what I mean?

I would certainly argue this point when it comes to fountain pens.
My MIL happens to be a high-end pen collector (with a collection well-above my entire networth, which isn't exactly trivial either).

She absolutely, positively loathes late production Mont Blanc pens. In her view, very low quality, particularly for the price. She claims that MB pens are for the "gullible."

I guess that's like paying $2,000-3,000 for a fused suit, no?

Late-production Mont Blancs were prone to cracking with their so-called "Precious Resin". They really began to pervert themselves to the Robb Report-esque crowd in the '80s. Their best production years were the '30s. Fabulous designs.

My favorite pen would be: Visconti.

Well said.

Vintage Montblancs are exquisite pens that command high prices. The early Meisterstuck pens are also outstanding and very desirable. Several of the limited editon pens are also very nice. Otherwise, late model Montblancs are overpriced trash. For cognoscenti they can definitely carry a certain social stigma.
