I expected more from this thread -- I think the issue is that neither has especially good style, the the one on the right does have a nice coat. Women who can pull off the men's shoe look perform a stylistic tour de force, and not every one can rock it.

I do, and I'll tell you why.

The girl with the sponge looks great, but my gut feeling is that she's about as real as the twinkie I ate for supper. I experience her as a product made to sell something or give me a boner (which she does very well, thank you).

The girl on the bench appears to be a real person, on the street, wearing (I assume) her own clothes. The photo gives me a profound sense of her style, which I find both classically American and subtly provocative. She is dressed artfully; as with an interesting piece of visual art, I find myself wondering what she is saying with her mode of dress.

I can look at pictures that don't differ fundamentally from that of the sponge girl all day; they're all over the internets. The girl on the bench looks unique to me. In fact, it was my favorite picture posted by the sartorialist this week.

Not sayin' I'm right... just sayin' what I find more interesting.
