Monk Straps With A Suit???

What's the consensus on wearing monk straps such as the Alden, black cordovan medallion tip, with a suit? My budget is stretched and I'm trying to get some flexibility with my next purchase. Need a pair of black dress shoes that I can "suit up" or dress down a bit when needed. I'm leaning towards a more traditional blucher but like the style of the monk strap (see pics).

Please advise.

If you want something that suits up or dresses down, why not get the monk strap without the brogueing?

You can (and it can look fantastic), but I'm not sure I would recommend it at conservative business offices if that's a factor for you.

Just my opinion, but that particular monk looks very wrong. Between the two, it's not even a contest.

Now a sleeker monk might be an idea...

These monks do look a bit strange.
In what regards monks with a suit in general, IMO, monks tend to bias the look of the outfit towards the more casual end. And whether that is OK, depends, of course, on who you are and where you are and what you want.

Monks are ok with suits whatever some people are saying...

They must be very simple and classy...No broguing or anything else...

John Lobb models such as Vale or naseby or others are all right with suits...

Well, I guess that depends on whether these "some people" that think otherwise include your boss or the people that you want to impress with your elegance...

Monks are not a fashion disaster if they're very plain ...

Suits are better with lace-ups ,oxfords and so on but monks are better than loafers for example...
That's my point of view anyway for what it is worth!!!!

How do people feel about the AE Thayer?

I like the AE Thayer, but prefer the Mora.

Responding to the OP - Yes on monks with suits. I wear that often. Perhaps the AE Mora in black will work for you. It has the plain cap-toe some of the other posters advocate.

BTW, JM2C, the AE Mora in brown calf has the widest range of any shoe in my closet. IMHO, it goes well with a suit on the formal end and well with jeans on the informal end. If anyone asked me what should be my second pair of shoes after a pair of plan cap-toe exfords, I'd say a brown, plain cap-toe double monk.
