Fair enough, I suppose I'll just have to mask it with gunpowder, campfires, and scotch. Or whatever other highlands estate LARPing I get up to in this thing.

Beach sand. That's always a nice start. I have a used vintage Beaufort in navy and when I got it I found a Deutschmark, a shark's tooth, an old restaurant receipt, and a bit of sand. It's still a go-to jacket for me and I've added some mud and the odd foam strike indicator to the mix.

My Beaufort arrived in the mail today. Here it is with a Pistol Lake sweatshirt, Ratio OCBD, and Epaulet chinos.

I actually found the Topster new with all tags intact on eBay last year- pretty incredible considering the age. I still have the tags somewhere.

Deets on the sweatshirt? That looks pretty awesome, I’m not familiar with the brand

It is a French Terry crew neck. Flatlock stitching. Pretty light weight. This particular one sold out a few months ago.

Pistol Lake is an LA-based brand that makes American-made sports wear. It is a pretty popular brand with MFA on Reddit.

They just released an updated version of their French Terry crew neck. Here is a link: https://www.pistollake.com/products/crew-neck-sweatshirt?variant=15861202157602

I have really been into the sweatshirt & chinos, Paul Newman look. Today, I am wearing a red Ratio OCBD and a navy Todd Snyder sweatshirt.

I also like the sweatshirt/chinos look. I have a lighter gray Gustin from last year that is also French terry- I think it makes it feel a bit dressier than a fleece cotton/poly sweatshirt.

I also like collegiate crew neck sweatshirts with chinos, if the logo is text. I have a gray one from my Alma mater that I like a lot (but don’t wear often enough)

Collegiate sweatshirt + OCBD + khakis + penny loafers = definitely a southern trad thing (and perhaps elsewhere, too).

Also, I found this twenty year old Harrington jacket in my dad’s closet. It is pretty awesome.

I had one just like that more than 30 years ago, and TBH it's nice but pretty basic.
Today i much prefer Baracuta or Grenfell. The Tartans used for the lining are more subtle/rare than this Royal tartan IMO. I would now like to find one with a Blackwatch Tartan lining, if you know where to get one let me know…

I am fine with pretty basic. I have not developed the eye for different Tartans. Maybe, I should start working on that. I hardly noticed the difference between the Fraser tartan in my Baracuta and the Royal Stewart tartan in my dad's no-name Harrington. Also, I felt like inheriting an old Harrington from my dad was "more trad" than buying a new one. For me, the only important elements in a Harrington are ribbed cuffs, a tartan lining that goes all the way to the zipper, and the umbrella vent.

Another tartan anecdote. When I was shopping for my first Barbour jacket, the salesman went on and on about the different Barbour tartans. And I could not comprehend why this was an important issue.

I understand the price of an item coming from your dad.
I've got two Loden coats coming from my father and they are among my most prized possessions.
