I've come around to liking single monks and I think they can work in a trad/prep/ivy context. John Happ of Alden pictured below in khakis, pink OCBD and suede single monks.

    Minilugs on suede monks...interesting.

Love that shade of blue of his socks though- looks lighter than true navy in the first pic

^ I think it's the Alden commando with the recessed lugs. I have the same sole on a pair of Indy boots and it looks about the same as double-leather from the side. Super comfortable and grippy sole.

I have no experience with monks. Still only have one pair of loafers. On the hunt for a brown summer pair to go with my black ones. Heading to Sid Mashburn this weekend.

@Lucido the personal is not political for me. :) I don’t get into Pitti but I know a lot of others are interested in it and it generates a lot of traffic to specific websites. Besides, I have fun when everyone else has fun.

Single monks always remind me of Pilgrim shoes which is about as trad as it gets, no?

A few things spied in the Houston Galleria today:

Just for @orange fury here is a collection of velvet shoes from Saks.

White suits are the thing for several makers.

And of course the white dinner jacket.

Not quite pilgrim, but close enough I guess:

I actually like that grayish looking one 3rd from the left- kind of looks like a constellation in the pic.

Really like that white DJ, who’s the maker? Was that also at Saks?

Yes it was at Saks. I think it was Brioni or some other “luxury” brand.

I just had a very peculiar experience. I happened to stumble upon the Lucho storefront while looking for a place to eat. Remember that mystery sport coat that I got at the consignment shop? They are the maker. I walked in and was greeted by a lady who then disappeared into the back of the store. So I took a couple pics so I could share them here for all to see. Immediately someone named Hector (I think the owner) emerged and started talking to me about disrepect. Confused, I tried to introduce myself and was met with “Who do you work for? Who do you work for?” The whole situation was getting rather uncomfortable so I left. The experience seemed so paranoid and odd. I hope this wasn’t everyone’s experience but exercise caution. Hector seemed like a bit of an immoderate person.

I can understand vendors being leery of folks taking photos. Competitors seeking advantage, people posting malicious reviews on the Internet, attorneys gathering info for court cases, etc. Sounds like he overreacted a bit, though. Amusing to serendipitously find the maker of your sport coat. :)

Yes I’m sure he must have thought it was a little odd. And indeed bloggers sometimes think the world is theirs. But to come out of the back of the store yelling is not something I would ever imagine doing to a customer.

The great thing about a trad wardrobe is being able to simply throw on a blazer if you want to elevate it. Everything from earlier today is the same with a blazer over top.
