I'm thinking about buying this watch as an everyday beater. Do you think its too elegant for jeans and a button-down?

Here's some information from the MoMA design shop:

In the 1940s, Swiss engineer and designer Hans Hilfiker created the famous Swiss Railways Clock with its highly visible, red second hand. Today the wristwatch, with the same characteristic bold, clean features as the clock, is recognized as a classic. This Big Case model has an extra large, easy-to-read face and date, and includes a water-resistant polished stainless-steel case, mineral-glass crystal, quartz movement, and black leather strap.

I wouldnt wear this in switzerland, because you would look like one of those nerdy train-fanboys. (Dont know a better word. I mean those people who REALLY like trains, and usually own a huge model railroad).
But thats just a personal opinion.

I had one. I think it is fine for casual wear. Very simple, highly legible dial. The quality is decent. The caseback was rather thin metal. On mine, the second hand had noticable play, meaning it wobbled side to side whenever I tilted it. But overall, it is a good affordable Swiss made watch.

P.S. Don't buy from that MOMA link. You can get it much cheaper on eBay. I got mine from http://www.princetonwatches.com/

Those are nice. I've seen them all over amazon.com for $150-200 for the regular quartz movement. There is a nice ETA automatic version that I recall seeing somewhere for $350ish

I only wish the case wasnt the polished stainless, looks a bit cheap. If it were a satin/matte stainless it'd be on my wrist already

I think there are a few models with brushed steel cases, like this one (not a great picture):

Also, some of the models with black dials are really nice:

The one with the white face and brushed steel case is deservedly regarded as a design classic which is why it gets sold in places like MoMA .

It's pretty minimalist ..it will look good whether you're dressed up or dressed down IMO.

I don't like the non-brushed case version though.

I think these watches are pretty nice and exclusive. You might not wear it all the time but for a change. I found them at swiss railway watch for £89.99. That's probably a little less the average Amazon price.
