Been desperately looking for a pair of momos that are not super slim in the thigh/seat area, but taper pretty narrow at the ankle and have at least a 36" inseam. Anyone know of any? I had the 201 copper labels and wore them out, but those were too wide at the ankle and I wanted to move down once I wore through them. Ordered the G004-MB and they were narrower in the ankle but still wider than I'd like. Is there even a model of Momotaro's that has what I'm looking for?
Look for the 0405. It’s their high tapered cut. It’s glorious.

Yeah unfortunately the inseam wouldn't cut it, thanks for the help though.

Fortunately, I've found my solution. I recently learned of Indigo Proof, and Rain said she is able to tailor jeans while preserving the selvedge and the pink inseam thread. I'm gonna get a pair of 201s tapered (the same as my first pair, and the upper seat area was perfect).

Unfortunately no one seems to have a pair of 201s in size 36 that I can see -- can anyone help me find one online? Preferably raw but one washed is fine too.

I've got the same issue. Need a 35" inseam after all shrinkage. Which limits the jeans choices considerably. I love the 201s, but like you, wish the hems were more tapered. Luckily I'm in NYC and was able to find a tailor who knows denim (came recommended by Self Edge, and is just around the corner from them). They did a nice job tapering the momos for (I think) $40. They knew to preserve the selvedge, and matched the goofy pink thread perfectly. Sadly, they don't have a chain stitch machine. With the new taper I need to get them hemmed, and that means takin them to Self Edge and waiting another week, and shelling out another $20.

These jeans are great, but never once did I say "if only there were a way to spend another $60 on them... "

My dream is PBJs with a longer inseam. I've written them, begging. Still waiting for a reply.

Hi all,

First time buying momotaro Jean from online..
I normally wear size 30 for other jeans like G-Star, Calvin Klein, etc. I’m thinking of buying MOMOTARO X DENIMIO DE004 14OZ ORIGINAL COBALT BLUE SELVEDGE SLIM TAPERED. Can I just buy size 30 (one washed)? It’s stated 31.5 inches for size 30 at size guide though. Thanks all in advanced!

Necro-ing this thread as I'm interested in others' recent experiences with Momotaro and wanted to share my first experience with the brand.

I'm not a denimhead and for 30 years have worn regular Levi's or other jeans in the $30 to $60 price range: nothing fancy but fine for casual wear or occasionally with a sport coat if needed.

WFH (and this thread) made me curious about Japanese denim and Momotaro seemed as good a place to start as any. Went with vintage 701's and paid full retail. Okayama Denim was very prompt and shipping to the U.S. took 5 days.

Here's the problem:

Loose stitches in the pink inseam stitching were evident right out of the bag, and these started to unravel after 2 hours of wear. I sent these pics to Okayama Denim and they agreed this was unacceptable and paid for shipping both ways to Momotaro and back for re-work. The same pair of jeans arrived back today (3 week turnaround):

Stitching now looks good and overall quality of the jeans is excellent. However, I'm reluctant to go with Momotaro again knowing that a QC miss of this magnitude can happen. I've never experienced anything this bad in decades of wearing much cheaper jeans.

Anyone else have experiences to share, good or bad?

I've had 3 pairs of 0201s and not one quality problem.

My first pair is almost 8 years old, and for the first couple of years got worn almost every day. I just took them in for repairs for maybe the 5th time. The guy at the Self Edge NYC pulled out his best bedside manner and broke it to me that this might be the last time.

These repairs are purely from wearing them to death. Nothing quality-related.

I have several momotaro jeans, bought either in Japan or through OD - the quality has always been outstanding, and never had any issues.

That's good to hear. I'd like nothing better than to believe the pair I have will now last many years, but it goes without saying the initial experience was disappointing. Before going with Momotaro, I read through many threads on this forum, reddit and superfuture and didn't see a single QC complaint. My pics above do make me wonder if Momotaro (like many brands) has quietly cut costs while trading on their brand equity.

Do you guys have an opinion on Momotaro build quality vs. Pure Blue Japan, Tanuki, et al? I get that preferences on fabric weight, slubbiness, etc. are subjective.

If it helps anyone considering Momotaro 701's, fit pics after 1.5 days of wear are below:

Tough to tell from the (horrible quality) pics and these have stretched a little but are still hilariously, stupidly ******* tight. Had to walk around in them for 10 min before I could get the top button fastened. These are OW 701's with actual measurements for this size 32 pair from OD (smaller than their sizing chart):

Waist: 79 cm (31.1 inches)
Front Rise: 24.5 cm (9.6 inches)
Back Rise: 33 cm (13 inches)
Upper Thigh: 28.5 cm (11.2 inches)
Knee: 22 cm (8.7 inches)
Leg Opening: 20 cm (7.9 inches)
Inseam: 94 cm (37 inches)

I had these hemmed to 30" inseam and wanted to approximate the fit of Levi's 514 size 30x30. I was inspired to stick with size 32 by the posts itt from @Doctor from 2009. If you're still on this forum, huge props for breaking in size 32. I'm 5' 9" 175 lbs with 22.5" thighs and 32.5" TTS waist. Can't imagine fitting into these with 25" thighs or how that's even possible.

Planning to wear these daily for a few months before washing or soaking, and will post updated pics then.

If it helps, you should DM kiya from Self Edge. If you want to know anything about Japanese denims, he is the person to ask. Although Self Edge does not carry Momotaro, it doesn't mean the brand is no good.

Depending how the next few weeks of wear go, I might have to rethink my philosophy on jeans. Up to this point I've followed the Sith rule of two. Always two there are, no more, no less. One for yardwork, the other for dress casual.

I think you are thinking too hard, there was a loose thread. Yeah it sucks but not really a huge deal, and an easy repair you can do at home if you don't need it to be perfect. I'm sure **** happens, and I think all the jean brands at that tear have about the same level of build quality. I get buying like 250 dollars jeans with that can be disappointing but at the end of the day they are just jeans.
