Modern Polyester

I am starting to see a lot of high end designers who classically stuck to natural fibers come out with clothes made from polyester, especially outerwear. Can someone educate me about the advances that have been made in polyester fabric properties since, say, the eighties?

I'd still rather not wear polyester. Maybe I'm just being prejudiced here.

Well, I'm sure polyester is so cheap by now that it would help designers money-wise. Also, it seems like a lot of clothes that have polyester don't necessarily feel like polyester. I have a $70 polyester blend suit from H&M and despite the fact that it is made from a synthetic material, it doesn't feel like polyester, but rather, a cheap natural fiber. I don't know what scientific changes occured but synthetic fibers are definitely more versatile now because of the different textures they can give, depending how they're made.

I avoid Polyester and any other synthetic fabrics due to breakouts on the back.
Also it's not so comfortable for me.
