Did you ever meet him MoM, I believe that he now lives in Australia, there is a great clip on Youtube from RSG of him and some other lads dancing to Not Fade Away by the Stones even though the originals weren't supposed to rate them.
I seem to remember that they were wearing Harrington style jackets.

Tenner? No. I never got in the same scene as him.

Any idea where The Scene photos a from Yorky (website, book, Ebay ?), or who took them ?

I think the pics of the goofy little mod fellow are from that beautiful hardcover Mods book that came out about three years ago.

*granted that is a very vague answer but I’m not home right now so I can’t check tbe bookshelf.

Hi Natty the photos are from a website called Soul Source, on a thread called 1960's London Mod/Soul clubs. There's a lot more and some good venue/gig posters too.

PS Yorky, in East London from what I could pick up a child observer, was that The Stones were thought of as OK, more for their perceived anti social behaviour as anything else. Don't rememeber anyone having their records.

I think that a lot of the originals thought of themselves as purists, and regarded the Stones as imitators, i.e. a covers band. But then again all the great 60's bands did covers. Also I suppose that to some mods of the time they were a bit scruffy.
I saw a clip on YouTube recently of Bowie being interviewed by Parky, and Bowie had gone to a gig early sixties to watch Little Richard, Bo Diddley, with the Stones in support, and someone in the crowd shouted "get yer hair cut", and Jagger retorted "and what look like you". Bowie did a great Jagger impersonation, little did he know that years later the two of them would destroy Dancing in the street together.

And outside the London gigs of that tour Yorky, Guy Stevens, who was basically Bo and Chuck Berry's honourary A&R Man and a huge influence on Brian Jones, would be handing out Scene Club ticket/flyers.

Book news: The publisher is working flat out to produce a final galley for me to prove. Meanwhile, I've had a nibble from another venue for the Scottish mini-launch.
Great stuff @Man-of-Mystery !

I am following up three leads for a mini-launch venue in London. Not getting much traction TBH, but when I am in town in a week or so I shall drop in to at least two of them to press our case.

If you want me to read the proof let me know.

Picked up a coffee-coloured jacket in an Italian lightweight barleycorn wool/linen mix fabric for £25.
Probably gonna change the buttons to lighter coloured horn ones. Lapels a bit too wide, but apart from that, can't complain.

Love the colour. Very partial to brown- my favourite mac and Harrington are a similar colour.
