I remember listening to Brian Wilson state that when he first saw the Beatles in their mohair suits and looked at publicity photos of themselves the beach boys looked like bus boys.Yeah, it's an odd look. I also checked out pictures of other American frat rock (pre-garage) bands. I suppose I was curious if I'd find anything Ivy-ish that wasn't obviously mod-influenced. Alas, most groups from that era wore 'band uniforms' for photo shoots - i.e. silly matching suits in bright red or whatever.
So I guess Beach Boys is the closest we get to a non-mod 'Ivy' look in the world of 60s pop bands.
