Got this M&S St Michael 'prest' shirt for £8/$11
IMAG0011.jpg

Actually quite a nice fit.

Had an old paisley Relco shirt that faded badly after one wash. Threw some red Dylon at it today.
Now it looks like a bruise

Oh well.

I think they changed early - mid eighties. The inferiority of our lads’ rubbish footwear was exposed during the Falklands War. They were taking boots off dead Argentinians as they were vastly superior. I think the puttee business dates back at least to the Boer War!
I always thought they were to protect the legs bu tactually they are supposed to support the legs in a long march and became popular after the British adopted them by other armies . I think after WW2 they thought the long marches were over , then in '82 the Flaklands war occured and they had that long yop and as you saw the boots were pish and some troops were close to trench foot. .

Grabbed this Moss Bross wool/cashmere overcoat for £22/$29.50

Would have preferred navy over black, but I dare say I'll have a few funerals to attend soon.
It's a 42r rather than 42s, so I'll end up spending the same again on alterations. But £45/$60 for a decent overcoat is not bad.

Brings to mind the mod crowd in Blackpool before I moved down south. We had one bloke in our social circle who was as poor as a church mouse while still at school, and he got a black suit from a charity shop. The cut was okay, it was three-button, etc., but it had no vents, so it looked a bit out of place. He got the nickname "The Undertaker" on account of that black suit. Of course when he left school and got a job he started to buy better gear, and the nickname was dropped.

^ Looks perfect. I'd wish all my coats' sleeves were long enough, as yours are.
