Looks like Rossi was a bit of a mod. Mind you most of status qou had similar barnets in 67. Maybe they were peacock mods drifting into psych.
ive often wondered whenever one of there pictures pops up anywhere.
When Quo started out they were indeed a swirly/psych/Mod band with those haircuts and brocade jackets, before they found their signature sound and double denim image, which they maintained for the next five decades! Check out some film of them doing ‘pictures of matchstick men’ from that period. Status Quo turned out to be a prescient name for them!

Yes I’ve seen it. No one really talks about that period in the group do they. Maybe it’s been mentioned in autobiographys in the past but I’ve never read anything in depth on them so not sure.

Haircuts:
When I lived in Blackpool I had my hair styled at a salon known by the rather camp name of "Florian & Charles." The guys were Polish; my barber's name was Tony Marynowski.
When I moved Darn Sarf I had one bloody awful haircut in Bromley (Kent), got a coach back to Blackpool to get it repaired, and thereafter had it done by a bloke in Brockley, London SE4, whose name I can't recall, but who when I asked for a "skinhead cut" said "You mean shorter than skinhead," and gave me a college-boy.

I saw this article online about skinhead and suedehead cuts. I don't think that pic is Suedehead at all.. That's too G. I Joe... Of the pictures I've seen even the later skins say 1970 had hair long enough to comb across.. Not to mention later feathercut
When I lived in Brighton in the 90s I didn't have a pot to piss in and used to go to this stuck in time old barber.. £3 for a crewcut. Problem was he was so old the hair used to look pissed

Before the quo, they were called Traffic Jam and before that The Spectres, and had a few mod/psyche singles released.

Like a lot of these discussions there were no doubt regional variations but there’s no way I’d call that a suede head cut. Round ours, the suede head look was a fairly brief transition between skinheads and those who either went glam or boot boy. The haircut was a short top and sides with slightly longer taper in the back named a ‘Blackburn’ - (surely no relation to Tony who sported a “sensational” bowl-cut most of his adult life!).

Likewise. It wasn't even a "style" as such - I've said this before - but simply a growing-out of the crop and gradually buying more arty clothes. First sign was unbuttoning the collar of your Ben.

Perfect challenge for those who don't want to show their face :-D

MoM, IIRC this is controversial and some other "originals" didn't agree with you. Don't want to start a debate though, simply visiting this thread...
Cheers

Don’t think I own anything by them. I have a few of theses mod/ psych freakbeat boxsets on grapefruit records too.

Early Quo:

Double denim Quo:

Looks like they went from Mod to Shag-head ?. I don’t care, I love this stuff
