Nice to see the one with the Driving Gloves Ed.I remember them well but you rarely see them in photos !
Talking of photos around that era....I recall sciving off school to go to Trentham Gardens with a few friends. It was either the first day of Spring or Summer?Anyhow we were all done up in our finest gear and some photographer from the Evening Sentinal asked us to pose for a photo. We thought nothing of it and quickly forgot all about it.The next day my mum came home clutching the paper with a photo of us on the front page. That was when all hell broke loose !I would dearly love to see that photo again.

Those surfer jackets I've been going on about... I know this video is from 1980, but if you look at the bloke on the right at 0:46, he is wearing a lined version. This is what I was wearing in '67/'68. No piping on the collar or cuffs.

I was wearing driving gloves at a soul club last weekend, much to the bewilderment of many but the appreciation / admiration of those in the know!

Re the glove(s), I reckon, 'cos we can only see the left one, his oppo may well be wearing the right one!!! :satisfied:

    I vaguely remember getting a pair - yes, two of them :D - for around 15s/6d - 76p - that weren't leather.

Driving Gloves-always reminds me of the Black Panthers.

I think the boy was merely keeping with a check theme and, my father had a similar tie in his wardrobe from the 1950s.

Just realised it - the Butlins' pic - has a 'Ballroom Blitz' watermark... kudos to them, I didn't see that yesterday as I trawled the web nursing the world's worst hangover. :embar:

Driving gloves were - briefly - popular up here... dunno if it was the Panthers' cause that encouraged it or just some effective sales strategies by the Glove Marketing Board? :satisfied:

The popularity of driving gloves outlived that of berets. The beret thing only lasted a few months. The gloves were seen for about a year and a half.

The gloves i thought were always a soul thing, most popular in Manchester and in the Twisted wheel i thought ? It was a popular theory that lads only wore one glove on the right hand (black power pose at the 68' olympics !!) but i think alot of people said that they were definately always two worn in the beginning. There are a few photos were lads can be seen wearing them...I will see if i can find them later. later on they became a thing so you didnt fck your hands up when doing a backdrop or whatever. But there are so many conflicting stories. Theres a really good twisted wheel forum room that always has alot of pictures, some of which arent up on here. I will trawl through and see if i can post them here.
I did buy a pair to wear when cold but lost one. I think ill get a new pair. Dents do some nice ones IMO.

PS. some shirt porn for you all. Arrived today, new tailored one..
