My sentiments entirely, never mind this faction or that,it`s all bollocks,I`m just a skinhead.

Some pages from the early 80`s skinhead shop The Last Resort`s catalogue. This shop was very instrumental in the Oi scene in London. Looks plenty smart enough to me....

Another pic of The 4 Skins

This was from when this shop was decent and sold what skinheads wanted and the shelves were mixed with Oi,ska and reggae stuff aswell as all the clothes-sadly,it`s seriously crap these days

I know this is a thread for "Traditional Skinheads" and I`ve really enjoyed reading all the recollections of the original days aswell as all the great photos.I just wanted to post up some pictures to set the record straight about some peoples mis-informed opinions about the skinhead revival. It wasn`t all 20 hole DM`s and glue sniffing.

Scruffy? Your word mate, not mine. I simply said punks. I agree with you though good & bad in every bunch.

However, two points to remember, nearly every "Skinhead" I know who was a skinhead in the Oi period & listened to Oi referred to themselves as punks first and the vast majority of the Oi skinheads I met and knew and still know where Nazis in the early 80s, including most of the "traditional skinheads" in my own crew in Sweden. And they openly admit that, and put it down to the folly of youth.

I'm sorry but there is still too much of this rose-tinted revisionist stuff going on among skinheads about how skinheads in England in the 70s and 80s weren't racist or Nazis, no not all of them where, but a hell of a lot of htem where, I know from first hand experience, but from friends and from fights with nazi skinheads in West London.

Nice boots Roy. Cheers for the replies gents. I tend to wear dessies all the time these days even if they are not 'technically' skinhead kit but I'm another who's not interested in faithfully replicating the detail. Like Brideshead says, I tend to use it as a yardstick.

Might have to get some photos up now so you can all tell me how shit I look [IMG]

Nothing rose tinted here "mate",I know my skinhead history and that includes all through the late 70`s and 80`s and all the good and bad points included in those times.No-one has mentioned politics before now,we are talking about clothing style(the clue is in the name of the forum) and you said that the skinheads who were into Oi were essentialy punks,so I`ve shown some pictures to prove otherwise. Now,why have you had to drag bloody politics into it? A surefire way to bring it all down to the gutter!
I`ve known hundreds and hundreds of skinheads over the years and not one of them refered to themselves as punks. It was not like that here in England,it was very tribal you was in one camp or the other.

Their was a comment by a Skinhead girl on FB saying how Scruffy Skinhead Girls are at present day Doos, The Girl in question is fairly smart, but not a touch on the original Skinhead girls, I commented that I have met very very few smart Skinhead girls on the present day scene. so i got a bit of a backlash and was pulled up at a Doo, but i stuck to my guns.
The blokes make the effort so why is it the Girls don't.

Shep, you seem to think perhaps that I am some youngster in a foreign land. I'm over 50, I was born in West London, and I was a skinhead first in 74 and we had our gang in Notting Hill.
I mention the politics of the late 70s & 80s because it was very prevalent amongst skinheads & punks and it was unavoidable; and the Oi punks/skinheads were the most political of all, I've lost count of the Zeig Heiling skinheads I saw in the 80s. NF and BNP meets were populated almost exclusively by skinheads then.

My point is this, that an Oi punk skinhead had nothing in common with a traditional skinhead apart from clothes.

out here it seems the girls make a lot of effort and are well turned out at reggae/ska do's, but many guys look like slobs, and sad thing is that they probably think they are looking very smart
