Ha ha, slagging my spelling then making a mistake straight after!
From what I can gather, it was Polar neck and not polo - just drifted into the same word over time.
Nowt to do with playing polo, or the mints, or the ugly little VW car from the mid 70s.

I always thought turtle neck was higher than a crew but shorter than a roll-neck, but this is often used to describe the high neck fold over one as well.
Had a look at a few 60s Fred Perry style shirts still in the packets but they all say "Sports shirt" or "Leisure casual".

Nice pics of sharpies. (not to be confused with sharp skinheads)

Think Oz is the only place the look travelled well originally, perhaps down to the ex pats???

    Thanks Bunty.

Yep, much to my disgrace, I bought an England (I'm a Jock) team suit from 2008 - it was cheap from M & S - with side 'adjusters' (no need for a belt) with buttons and an element of elastic.

It's dark blue, five button cuff (non functional) and six pockets in the interior of the jacket.

I love it as... I'd love a real England player fit the suit that was made for a fat bass(tart) like me. (g)
Slant pockets, I'll take a pic and post it. :satisfied:
