Okay this is where I 'come it' a bit.

Slade adopted a skinhead look in 69. They did a gig at Goldsmiths College in New Cross and I bumped into them. They had weird stuff on like skinny Tesco Bomber jeans, any old boots, braces worn with belts, and stuff like that. I gave them an instant tutorial on how wrong they looked, and the next time I saw them on TV their clobber had changed a bit, looked a bit more authentic - even wore Ben Shermans.

I think this was a slightly later pic, by which time their look had degenerated again. In this pic Noddy looks nothing like a skin.

    Signed,
    The Man Who Dressed Slade.

Just about says it all. Certainly as far as the late 60s goes.

Scots tended to go no further south than Blackpool for their summer holidays. It would have been unusual to have seen a bunch of Scots kids at somewhere like Margate, but there were thousands of them on the Golden Mile.

May 5th is the bank holiday; we avoided that cos we thought people might have family plans that weekend. What does anyone else reckon? We can't do June 9th.

I can do 19th May, 26th May, 9th June (no good for you, Suzie, so I'll just keep revising for my exam on the 14th), 16th June (a good one for me, because it's after my exam), 23rd June (by which time I'll be 62!), and 30th June. I hope people can agree soon or these dates will disappear. On some of the dates I might be able to stay overnight (26th May, 23rd June).

Ahhh, the age old problem of balancing the skinhead diary ...

Other than that, June 23rd, July 21st, July 28th, Aug 4th, Aug 11th, Sep 1st, 8th, 15th, 21st are all good for me.

    Busy year (as always).

In reference to what was being said earlier, I like asking the old gits questions about the old days - its of great interest to me. And the fact there's only half a dozen original skinheads on here regularly, that's fine by me. I've spoken to hundreds of others over the years but this forum had filled in many gaps in my knowledge. And whilst I disagree with them on various things, that doesn't mean it hasn't been an excellent bit of research. Long may it continue.
