This is interesting, but strange phenomenon.

The guy in the second picture somehow got caught in between the 2 different cults when evolving out of Mod:

When I am not so tired, I'll remember where the picture came from! I've had it a while..... It was tagged by the lad on the bottom left of the photo as being 1970. The Zephyr is an 'H' reg. Think they might have been from Northampton way. Harry might know.

so, do you really think that makes you better than me??? cause this is just the opinion of some old guy who maybe was skinhead for a year or two back in 1969 (btw never seen a single pic of you as skinhead), left the scene and didnt even knew that there were skinheads in the 70s, 80s, 90s and came back in the 2000s to dress up as a skinhead at weekends for a niter and play smartass on the internet?? so do you really think you can speak for the whole british skinhead scene??? i dont think so....

dunno when and where you were in germany, but for sure we got a lot of skinheads over here too, that dont even listen to oi! and punk and only prefer ska, reggae and soul...
btw to germany skinhead came before oi! with two tone... but believe me in the uk skinhead wasnt more traditional during these days....

The thing is with you Spilla you hate the fact that Skinheads was invented by 60s Great Britain and not by late 80s Spilla from Germany,
You are right in one respect mate up until Three years ago i did not know that skinheads was still around in Britain,
But i now know different, and have meet so lovely people from all over the World
I was a skinhead for about 18 Months in the 60s, I cannot claim to be a Skinhead now especially at the age of 57.

You know what mate just your ability to be able to write in better English than me, proves that you do not understand British working class society,
I very much doubt that you even know what i am talking about.right now.

Another thing Spilla I have got to know a fair few German Skinheads who get over to Britain far more than you, I say to them do you know Spilla.
Yes they say, and thats about it.

I wish i had some pics of you that was on UK Skinheads, that i could post on here , so people could see your interpretation of a skinhead.

Why not put some up on here Spilla.

Another thing Spilla , every British working class teenager in the 60s was a skinhead, I did not leave the scene, it just ended mate. and we moved on, another thing their is a pic of me on here.. in a skinhead suit in 71, Look at the length of my hair in that pic, again you would not understand,

One thing i will say about you Spilla, and with respect, You have been what you think is a skinhead as you say for the last 25 years, But who cares. No one especially in Britain.

That actually happened to some of my Mob I joined. It was all Cowbells,Kaftans and Flowers painted on their Faces(I did not go that far but I was wearing Polka Dot Shirts etc.).This was `67,before I knew them(there was not a Gang then)-they told me about it later. Then it all changed.Hair cropped,Boots,Braces the works..None of them could really tell me why!

    Great find again :)

In Mick Farren's book 'Give the Anarchist a Cigarette' he mentions, if I remember rightly, 'acid-Mods' in the '67 West End Hippy clubs. These lads had short hair and wore Paisley patterned Mod cut suits and for a giggle they walked around inside clubs armed with water pistols (!) Even so, they acted as protection for the flowered powered clubbers when all and sundry wanted to have a go at them...

This lot weren't your crew was it Brownie...? :D

Quote from the book - (The Band were The Social Deviants)

Early in their career, booked to play in front of an audience of Geno Washington-worshipping skinheads, they found that the punters took a dislike to them so instant that they didn't even have to play a note. "The skinheads saw us in our self-invented hippie outfits and didn't hesitate. Straight at the stage, at us - like one of those Chinese Red Army human waves out of the Korean War. Have you ever seen a drummer wrap his arms around his entire kit, pick it up, and run? Not easy, but Benny accomplished it."

I was a Skinhead for 18 months.Me and thousands of Teenagers had a Style that was copied in the 70s/80s and still is today. We had no Template to work from(as with the later Skins). We created our "Look" from various Forms of Fashion-and from different Countries. When I was 20,I got tired of the Aggro and the run-ins with the Old Bill.To put it bluntly I was growing up!Others still carried on and became Boot Boys.I got Married.I noticed the 80s Skinheads. On another Site I got abuse after someone asked me what I thought of them.I told them that-with the tight Jeans and multi holed DMs-the 80s Skinheads would have been jumped on(by the 60s Crowd). My honest opinion.
It makes me smile when you have the 2nd Wave Skinheads say"I have been a Skinhead for such and such years".So what.I like to dress reasonably fashionable so that would make me a Mod for 47years,going by that Theory,(Skinhead was a Branch of Mod). There will always be that chasm between the two Sets of Skinhead about this Time Period. At 16,I did not want to be dressed in DMS,Braces and rolled up Jeans when I was 40.When I reached that age,I still did not.I go to Dos now,not to be a Skinhead again, I go because I enjoy the Music(though I give Oi a miss).I have met some friendly People on the Scene,so I have enjoyable Evenings.No-one is a better than others! That Elitism also helped to kill the original Scene.:)

As others have said, the original 60s skinhead phase only lasted a few years then fashions changed.

People moved on as well. Most do not maintain the same interest in clothes throughout their lives. Other things become more important.

However, bits and pieces are fondly remembered. I wanted a cheap Millets Harrington as a golf top. The internet is available and you discover stuff more easily than in the past. The skinhead clothing aspect I always thought of as specifically London. I was not particularly interested in the provincial interpretation - still less what went on in later years overseas.

As for threads like this, it is interesting to trawl your memories. If someone wants to know what sunglasses were worn I am happy to answer. I am not telling them they have to wear that brand, just passing on information. Part of it is also remembering places that will almost certainly have no interest except to those who knew them at the time - nostalgia you could say.

I wanted to get the type not specifically the brand because they looked better then aviators, I rarely buy vintage kit (I'm not spending 100+ bucks for worn items).

that is the worst shit i ever heard... i know that it is invented in great britan, but NOT by you.. so get over it...

and why then act like someone who know it all and wanna tell me or other what it is skinhead and what not??? even the "original" ones on here dont agree with you in many parts, when you say it wasnt a london thing or only done by notherners.. so do you really think you ´ve seen it all and know it all better than the other ones on here?? i think the story of m-om are more interesting and his remarks were the reason for me to join this board, cause hell yeah i´m interested in the past too, like all the other not 2nd or 3rd wave or even 4th wave skinheads on here...

better english?? i dont think so...

so what?? people know me, cause i´m around since ages and met alot of people during that time... is this bad if people know me??

you can find pix of me all over the internet... my interpretation?? yes, i dont dress in original 69 underwear, vintage sunglasses, etc... i started skinhead in the 80s and this was a way bigger impact to me, then alot of the clobber that was worn in 69... for me skinhead is an every days style... i dont dress up for the weekend for a do or a concert... i´m a skinhead every day and you will never see me without skinhead clothes.. and i feel free to mix the original style with 2nd wave skinhead style.. still looking more like a skinhead then you when you dress up for the weekend... and if you dont reconized, the style changed over the years.. some parts got lost, some additions are new, like pringle or slanzenger v-necks... but take a coser look on the next niter and you will find out that even purist traditionals are wearing slazenger now... even if alot of the 2nd wave skinheads from the ukskinheads forum think it is casual shite...
and again: skinhead is still here today in 2012 hold up by the young ones and it is not some re-anactment club that dress in historical uniforms for the weekend and put the clobber for the rest of the week in the closet...
so if it wernt the young ones during all the years, you wouldnt find out 3 years ago that skinhead still exist, cause it would die out with you guys...

so again, get over it... i´m not here for bitching... i dont post that much, cause i enjoy reading and hear the old stories, but dont be such a snob and attack cause i´m only 2nd wave and from germany.. you are NOT better than me.....

and again YOU are not the one that can tell me if britain cares or not.. you are not the spokesman for your whole country...
there are many skinheads in the uk that earn way more respect by me than you do...
but nobody of them would be such a bitch and tell me shit like this....
