Phew, I thought you were going to say it had been on FB and UKS or something, and we were expecting a mass influx of "bleachers, boots, bellies & braces" (Their words NOT mine)

Pity we couldn't have some music at our meeting, but I suppose it'd get in the way of the talking! Definitely think we should have a section about music in the book though.

That would be good.I suppose I went deeper than most Skinheads, because of going to "Desmonds Hip Record Centre" in Brixton, and the "Limbo" and the "Roaring Twenties".It was how the Music got to me!:)

Yeah, I think music in the book is an essential section.
As for music at the Meet, it'd be great to have a bit of background music at "Juke Box" level. Which could be arranged now Im staying over.

The music is very evocative of those times, even to those who weren't that into it. Even if they haven't really listened to it since, certain records seem to provide a soundtrack to the memories as it were.

To me it was the Jamaican thing.I copied the Dress(and I know Original Skinheads will deny this),but it was important at the time.I was never a "wigger" but it seemed right!!!:)

Well despite what people say, style is not created in a vacuum: there are diverse influences that, when drawn together, make a look. So what you say makes sense to me.

Reggae was only part of the music we listened to, Tamla Motown was just as important , plus the pop music of the day, The biggest hit for skinheads in 69 was Spirt in the Sky, You would get hundreds of Skinhead girls at the Tottenham Royal dancing in rows to it.
We also listened to Booker T, The Drifters was also well played.

Yes it was, where I went, but to be truthful it did not hit the spot-where Reggae did.In the 70s I lost over 3,000 Reggae Records-that is how strong I was into it!!!
