See? penny loafers, what did I tell ya?
I remember that, when I was 16 and skint! I had a double-breasted jacket (I cheated - I got hold of a Naval-style blazer and got the brass buttons replaced with plain plastic ones). But the gangster look didn't last long, as I recall.
Quite a lot south of The River in '68 - mainly in brown with brown laces. I had a pair myself.
Speak for yourself!
yep, these were still available in mid 80s. i had friends that wore these around 86. always thought they were pretty horrid. But i do like the way monkey boots have "evolved" into a much nicer looking shoe with some of the recent interpretations (Solovair, Trickers, etc)
Interesting Photo,Bunty.Always like pre-Skinhead ones.Monkey Boots were very distinctive in both the Sole and the Stitching. They were Burgundy or Black(I still like them today).
No,it lasted a few weeks(if that). What it did do was me starting to buy and wearing Suits-which led into the Skinhead Look.
Mate, those photos are the b***ocks, great find, thanks for posting them - they could have been taken last week
Great pics indeed! Thanks for sharing the find!
Dont think this one has been posted, maybe the clearest shot of "skinhead girls" supposedly early 70s. Cheers to Joao for finding this one!
Great one GS
Anyone seen this before,
that "my son the skinhead" article was also reprinted in George Marshall's "Spirit of 69" book. always thought it amusing, the juxtaposition of the boy and his mum's comments on his behavior
His Mum looks scary ,
this is amazing.....i'm sure many here (well, the non-originals) know of the famous Last Resort song called "Violence in our Minds". It's an early 80s Oi classci
turns out that is not their song, whoever wrote it (supposedly a friend of the band penned the words) based it on this, an acoustic track from the original skinhead days performed by Miles Wooton called "Skinheads"
and here is the Last Resort version (sung by Roi rather than Saxby) that everyone knows
mind is blown.
