Apparently the B-15C was the predecessor to the MA-1.
The Mouton fur collar was removed due to helmet size and so the
B-15C (modified) was introduced, leading to the MA-1 as we know it.
This is all as I believe it to be correct info from Japanese websites ?
Interesting stuff although I find the cable loops a bit pointless for us civilians. Keeping them for authenticity is all well and good for those who want their details accurate but if that’s the case shouldn’t they also have a Velcro name tag patch?

Up until when was the B-15C standard issue, and when did the use of Velcro become widespread? (I know when it was invented, I'm just trying to gauge whether it must appear on an 'authentic' B-15 jacket.)

Interestingly enough , my surplus MA-1 had a clear plastic sleeve on the chest that probably contained a name tag or a badge. It was easy for me to remove. .

An authentic reproduction, what does that even mean? Authenticity does not lie in materials and form, authenticity is not so easily conferred...

I think it was 1953 with the the MA-1 coming in 1957.(BLUE ANCHOR OVERALL COMPANY)
The last contractor for the B-15D was,I believe SKYWAY.
The last contractor for the B-15C was WILLIS & GEIGER INC.

From what I can gather, velcro for patches and name tags is a recent addition and was not used by the USAF until the space program utilized it for other things. There are photos from the late fifties through the sixties of the clear plastic window holder being used extensively by pilots on their flight jackets,as per Saints jacket.

I don’t have the patience to investigate the minutia of flight jacket evolution but I do find it interesting anyway. Your suggestion may explain why my MA1 (no name knockoff) like many others does not have a Velcro name patch but my CWU-45 does.

I had a couple of suits made in the late 80s with that type of jacket, and they looked great, but I was a lot slimmer and younger. My DB's are now 6 button 4, people will argue not Mod, but befitting my age and build.
I used to have a monkey jacket made by George Bests clothing range from the 60's, I bought it from a vintage shop in Afflecks Palace Manchester.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, just to throw a spanner in the works I wondered what the general consensus was regarding tattoos? I’m heavily tattooed myself but have nothing on show below my upper arms, I can still wear a Fred Perry polo shirt with just a hint of tattoo below the sleeve, at the grand old age of 61 and retired I must admit to considering going full sleeves including my hands. My existing tattoos are all traditional Japanese style which I carefully researched due to my martial arts background. For me tattoos transcend fashion, you are making a massive commitment, it ain’t like dumping those stripy boot-cut bell bottoms that seemed such a great idea on a drunken, late night bid on a certain ‘well known internet auction site’ off at the local charity shop any time now! interested where you all stand?
