Roytonboy boy/ ed Vaughan, thank you so much ,I still think we were conned by decimalisation,::nodding:
Aye... I remember being able to get a pint of mild (at 15), for 1s-9d - or 9p(ish) - and it being raised to an outrageous 2/- (10p) in one fail swoop!!!

I was working in a car wash on Saturdays and making £5-£7 - depending on fiddles - and to be able to get pissed on 12 bob was one of my regular feats

Apologies to our overseas readers and those post-decimal youngsters.

Google it!!! All will appear clear.

And while I remember, my first Timpson Royals were £7-15s (£7.75p) from their branch on Market Street, opposite the Underground Market. :satisfied:

(My first official pay packet in a real job was £5-18s-2d and, as an apprentice compositor (printer), it never went up much for five years!!! :butbut:

I started drinking Light and Bitter at 1s 9d a pint. That also went up to 2s in one go. I had forgotten that steep price rise. We all started drinking lager soon after which was even dearer. Good luck with the hip op. Ed. You must have damaged it dancing to the reggae in your youth!

Cheers Bob, your good wishes are much appreciated.

I have to say, having an op - with a general anaesthetic - scares the sh*te out of me.

Was at the hospital today for some pre- stuff and they emphasise that as you get older, the risk of 'mortality' increases. NO ****?

I knew that and, according to all the tests, I should be fine but I'm lucky(!), I have queue-jumped (please forgive me as: if i don't work, neither do half-a-dozen other people) and have health insurance, as have people who work with/for me. I love the NHS but it's on its arse ATM! (IMHO)

I am donald-ducked on the hip because of an accident 15 years ago - I can't function without being able to get about and several publicans in Didsbury won't holiday this year unless/until I get back on both feet (sic.) :satisfied:

Not a dancer, despite having a great night with Little Queenie and her 'beau' (sorry kid :D ) at one of the last nights at the Twisted Wheel - despite me having enjoyed some of my dentist's fave numb-stuff. (Lovely couple BTW!!!)

Of course I'm embarrassed that a man of such mature years still indulges in 'Red Bull'... but hey-ho!!!:satisfied:

Better go. laughing my arse off at Citeh - sorry RB (some great posts, mate) - as they play Ronaldo and Bale and, as a ST holder at OT, I will miss the United v Palace final at Wembley (crutches or dead(!!!!)) and spend the day after the op getting over it by celebrating my 62nd birthday(13-05-54), ******** in a papier-mache pot for some underpaid, minimum-waged, eastern European to clean up - I may refuse grub!

Game on again - I may report back later after I have kicked the arse out of this vodka bottle! (I mean, what have I to lose?)

EDIT: Just realised you said: 'Good luck with the hip op. Ed."

Whaddya mean, 'Hip-Hop'? :D

Best wishes for the op, Ed. If you finish the vodka bottle, maybe you won't need the general anaesthetic. Thought of you the other day as i saw that Éric the red paid a little visit to Man.U :)

Merci, mon ami (I'm knackered trying to find accents on flipping' Macs) Pardonez moi?

I love ''King' Eric" he really is a talented man - and a gentleman - IMHO.

Vodka is now half-empty - see, i'm a pissimistist (sic) who always sees a bottle half-empty as opposed to half full - it's a Scottish thing.

It's a great site this and, I try to find material - as we all do - that lightens elements of 'us' to a world that only sees us as people where the origins and elements of our youth(s) as monochrome - when nothing could be further than the truth.

I have a link from someone - who is a good guy but has yet to deliver - a library of historic material from 'our' early days - I will pursue this thing while I'm laid up.

I never pass a week without checking this forum and love what has been posted - even if I have seen it before.

We scrabble for 'new' stuff because it's almost as if, as an entity, certain uneducated elements want to eradicate us from contemporary history.

Me? (anaesthetic permitting) :satisfied: I'm going nowhere and I reckon, by the attention this medium, attracts, neither are most of you fellas and ladies.

There are - or is that 'is'? - loads of pics from 'our' heritage out there - let's ask where it is.

Au revoir,

Ed (You can tell the voodoo is working as I can almost spell!)

Covers a wide timeline - in pics and articles - and whoever has put it together has definitely spent a fair old time on it.

If it's not for you - fine. No need for a mega-rant or wasted key-strokes.

Does anyone know how to copy photos from the link above from Ed

I have tried the usual 'save image as' etc but no luck. They may be inaccessible? There are a few pics we have not seen here before

Good to see you posting again Ed and good luck with the hip next week

Try simply dragging them to your desktop.

Alternatively, keep taking screen-shots and crop the wanted image from the result.
