I was working in a car wash on Saturdays and making £5-£7 - depending on fiddles - and to be able to get pissed on 12 bob was one of my regular feats

And while I remember, my first Timpson Royals were £7-15s (£7.75p) from their branch on Market Street, opposite the Underground Market.
(My first official pay packet in a real job was £5-18s-2d and, as an apprentice compositor (printer), it never went up much for five years!!!
