lol I guess this quote is part of your Mod side [IMG]. About the Rude Boys, was Rude Boy strictly a Jamaican Thing? And were there any "Rude Girls".

West Indian girls didn't seem to get out and about as much as their Anglo equivalent - maybe a cultural thing. We did have a couple of mixed-heritage girls in our crowd. They were sisters. One was utterly gorgeous and modeled. The other was tougher, adopted a more masculine look, and got the nickname 'Killer' because she could fight like hell. I got on really well with her. Apart from that I had one Jamaican girlfriend for a short while.

Funny though, outside of the name appearing in reggae songs, I never heard the term 'Rude Boy' on the streets.

I'll take the gorgeous one, you can have the other one,lol [IMG] [IMG].
About mods and skinheads: Mods were known for riding scooters but did that also cross over to skinhead? I don't think I've ever seen a pic of an Original skinhead with a scooter.

Scooters (striped down, without all the mirrors etc) were still seen around in 68 in London. Less so by 69, but even in 70 I had an occasional date with a particular skinhead girl who idolised guys on scooter (or in Bond Bugs - but that's another story!).

Hi. This is my first post. Get Smart 'invited' me on board. I was a skinhead c. 1968/69.

    I live in Essex in'it!

Look forward to posting here and learning.

Could I start with a question? Jason put up a link to a 'skinhead shop' in London early in this thread - selling made in England Harringtons, etc. Anyone have that link?

    Thanks.

Scooters were very big up North and definitely part of the Skinhead scene. I don't know many Northern Skinheads who didn't have them in the late '60's / early '70's.

Up north we still called ourselves mods.
The folk in the front of the Skinhead Moonstomp LP still called 'emself mods.

Chris Welch's article of course still categorised them/us as 'mods', but there were all kinds of names which were applied to us - skinheads, lemon heads, spike heads, peanuts, totters, and so on - some of which would have got you a knuckle sandwich if you had used them.
Did you ever heard of the term hedgehogs applied to you kids early on? Hi Brideshead and welcome [IMG] I've seen you around on FNB and remember that great write up you did: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/f...head-to-Smooth

I am wondering whether the band the guy talks about is The Executives. It can't possibly be the resident band that was there in 67 68, because although they played soul music they looked as though they would have been more comfortable playing fox-trots. Anyhow, as they were the Blackpool crowd it doesn't surprise me that they called themselves mods. What does surprise me is that I don't recognise them.

'Hedgehogs'? Nope, never heard that one.

Can you put me in touch with detroidsoul?
