Depends on the occasion but I say go for it. Brown (regular or suede) or maybe a navy blue suede pair.

for Prom?

everyone there is going to be wearing the typical oversized suits and multicolored shirts from Le Chateu (Canada).

Want to do something different. Any suggestions for a grey suit?

Thanks!

Maybe with a linen suit, but there is no point wearing a suit and then dressing down using your shoes.

It can work with casual suits...

Linen , cotton can look good with loafers especially suede ones...

Agreed. On the more formal end of business/party wear it looks crap. I remember seeing two blokes at the airport in formal charcoal business suits and dark tan low vamp heavy hide moccasins. No doubt easier to get through security but a mess all the same.

A cotton or linen summer suit with driving mocs is a good look IMO.

Italian mocassins with black tie is a classic. Make sure you wear socks though
