I know there are a ton of us using smartphones now (51% of the populace to be exact), so it befuddled me to see this rock-solid piece of archaic technology at such an astounding price. Now I admit this phone looks pretty awesome, and having one merely to be one of 333 people in the world to be able to claim ownership would be full of narcissistic win. But the only reason I can see someone spending this amount of cheddar on a dumb (awesome) phone is because they have a full-time assistant in place of what a smartphone does for the rest of us.

Sort of like the Vertu phones. They cost thousands of dollars, are made of exotic materials (carbon fiber, platinum, diamonds depending on the model) and have very limited functionality beyond sending texts and making calls. I've still yet to see one in person (not part of the .01%). Anyway they were owned by Nokia but acquired or spun off a few years ago.

If I were one of the .001%, I would not be stupid enough to spend what would amount to an insignificant amount of my fortune on that. The common-sense-oriented Upper Midwesterner in me wouldn't allow it.

Of course you wouldn't Teach. But the value of a dollar to you and I, versus the trust fund folks out there, are vastly different beasts. This is for those who read the Robb Report and use it as a catalog for Christmas presents to themselves.

So , , , a phone that does not automatically enable the worst of the inner narcissus and time waster in all of us?
Sounds nice. Smart phones are way overrated.

Honestly, I'd love it if some of the energy in mobile phone development was going towards small, light, simple one handed phones. Emphasis on small.

In a perfect world it would be about the size of two packs of gum laid side to side but much thiner. Call, text, and a headphone jack. No fucking dumb ass mobile smart anything.

Uh...got to Target or WalMart. Plenty of phones that are exactly that, for not much money.

From what I've seen they are all clunky, super cheaply made, and have shit for music capability.
But maybe I'll have another look.

I don't think they're any more cheaply made than the smartphones, just cheaper.

IIRC Paris Hilton had a Vertu. I held one before at the Nokia store on Mag. Mile, nothing special just carbon fiber cover but costed 5k. Not sure why anyone would buy it.

I remember some obnoxious arab guy posted here a few times. He had all of these exotic cell phones that he would carry around in a bag. Each phone had it's own group of contacts.
