Hi gentlemen, I’ve been slowly improving my mirror shine capabilities relying on Pate de luxe and mirror gloss, but my new pair with a medallion was a major disappointment. I found a lot of the wax was getting caught in the broguing and it was a beast to actually get a glass like mirror shine (which I did not succeed with).

Any tips or guidance on how to approach this?

Can you show some photos as to how it is now? Did you fix it?

You need to do thinner coats of wax if you're getting noticeable wax stuck in the broguing.

If you are getting wax in the holes you are using too much wax. Don't rush the process; use a lot of veeerry thin layers vice slathering globs on. When collecting wax from the tin, I prefer to use my finger, and then use the same finger to spear it across the surface. This give me more control and tactile feedback than if I was applying using a rag. Another thing that can delay the process to a mirror shine is using too much water. You want juuuuust enough to prevent any dragging between your cloth and the surface. Any more than that will make the wax gloopy and keep it from hardening into a smooth coat. This is made worse with brogues because the water will penetrate the leather a bit through the sidewalls of each hole and create temporary little water blotches that seem to prevent wax from getting into the surface pores correctly.
