Minor Tailoring Question (pant hem

Recently I took several pairs of pants to be hemmed at a local tailor, and when I received them I noticed that on the outside of the pants the hem line can be vaguely detected by small, faint, and sporadic stitch dots.

I'm not all that concerned about them, as they're inconspicuous, but do you think the hem visibility speaks to the quality of the tailor? Should the hem be absolutely invisible? Just wondering, as I wouldn't want to trust jackets, etc. with someone who isn't proficient.

you should ask your tailor to use that new invisible thread that doesn't leave any visible trace of ever being altered. it's new. i heard it works well.

good call on the glue. maybe some paste? not only does it work well on alterations but it is also delicious.

That hem trail is very difficult to avoid with most fabrics and makes a good case for cuffs.

I've grown to like the hint of the stitch in the hem.

Technically you are supposed to use a "blind stitch" when hemming which only goes through a couple of fibers on the inside of the leg. Even then there is still the faintest hint on the outside, mainly due to thread tension pulling against the material.
