I am surprised no one has raised directly the ethical implications of wearing such a coat, as opposed to pointing out the dangers from others' outrage.

By the way, for a bit of background, I'm reading this book, which is an interesting history of the fur trade. One interesting thing that I didn't know is that the traditional beaver hats weren't made from the pelts, but from a felt made up of the hairs.

I wear fur mitts, a fur trapper hat, a short sheared beaver coat (dyed black) and a full-length unsheared beaver coat on occasion (not all at once!). Exactly as they are made today. Beaver felt is the preferred material for bespoke trilbys, fedoras, homburgs, etc.

There are better furs than beaver for fur hats, but no better felt.
