Milk causes and exacerbates acid reflux disease. I clear my throat enough after eating regular meals. I don't need to make it worse.

Because the topic of this thread was milk consumption. But thankfully, we're hitting on my original point here, and that's what we consumed during our evolution.

Yep, we humans have evolved - now we drink milk. Just like we used to *********** woods and now most of us **** in porcelain.

ah milk is pretty much pH neutral (if anything is a bit alkaline)... its most likely gas and H. Pylori causing the disease.

A lot of people try drinking milk to ease acid reflux before sleep. But often, milk ends up causing acid reflux during sleep. To understand the whole situation, we have to realize that the problem roots from eating too much at dinner time. Eating a big meal at dinner causes excess stomach acid production. Drinking milk could be a quick fix to the acid reflux problem. Unfortunately, milk has a rebound action and would eventually encourage secretion of more stomach acid, which causes the acid reflux. To solve the problem, try adjusting your diet by eating a small meal at dinner and have a small snack such as crackers before sleep.

(please thank and ask permission to Gloria Tsang, RD). lol... maybe if the situation is that one is lactose intolerant AND has reflux then it would be stupid drinking/eating dairy to begin with. the jury is still out on milk causing or helping with reflux. its different for a lot of my patients. biochemically it works both ways (where it can cause or help with reflux). its just not safe to make blanket statements toward such. as for the argument for milk being not natural for the human body.. what about alcohol, aspirin, penicillin, wearing leather shoes and synthetic fabrics?

but if you have lactose intolerance then if you drink a half gallon then you could have what can be described as "explosive diarrhea".

Maybe it would be best to defer to an ENT Doc.

The reasons for not drinking cow's milk is a bunch of pseudoscience hogwash. I can understand if you don't want to drink milk because you're vegan, but let's get real. There's no need to make things up. So you're lactose intolerant... it's genetic.

Part of the problem here is the difference between milk causing something versus milk contributing to a condition occuring. A lot of things can be bad for you in conjunction with numerous other factors (dietary and other) and need to be viewed as part of a whole diet (and lifestyle). This is different then saying drinking milk causes X and if milk wasn't consumed, then X wouldn't occur.

Can I have a milkshake or should I change to broccoli thick-shakes with my BigMac meals?
