If you've never been shot at you're a complete poser (and ***) for wearing the look.

Khakis, trench coats, duffel coats, and peacoats all started out as military items before trickling down into the civilian populace (usually through returning soldiers), so fashion trends have to start somewhere. Then again, I don't know that I'd wear something too overtly militaria without running the risk of looking like I went looking for something cheap at the local surplus store. (Of course, if that's the look you're going for, that's exactly what you should do. Don't bother with expensive couture trying to mimic cheap materiel...)

Photos are required.

Otherwise it could be WW2 helmets you are referring to?

This is a bit over the top, a lot of businesswear originally came from military uniforms.

I think it depends on where you live. The military thing has been around a while now really. I see people here in NYC doing it a lot.

Military is fine as long as your not head to toe in military clothing, the main worry with military clothing is that cat walks/fashion and the military just don't mix, fashion is about showing off in the city, military is about protecting a "civilization" with brute force. chalk and cheese

What kind of "military" are you talking about? Do you mean camo fatigues or the Hunstman cut?

Like others have said, if you mean something that has trickled down from the military, then thats fine. If you mean actually dressing up like a military man (including ties/rings/pins that allude to service that you have not performed), then absolutely not. It would be like wearing a Harvard ring if you didnt actually go to Harvard. In cases of the US Marines and the like, it could actually be dangerous.....

What sort of military fashion? Camo, khaki and urban guerilla, or something like Adam Ant, the late Michael Jackson and My Chemical Romance might have worn? What sort of street? Park Lane, Mayfair or Xilin Street, XilinHot? What looks great in one street, can look totally ridiculous somewhere else.

I have a heavy winter overcoat that appears to be either French or some other French speaking military. It's quite striking and seems to be very well constructed, with a tapered waist and really cool gunmetal buttons. I've also seen some very cool stuff from WWII era german military uniforms.

this style went out of vogue like 3 years ago, so no it's not stylish.

I like some of the more militaristic coats Burberry has had over the past few years. Hard to point out a single jacket, but some seem to go way back to the 18th and 19th century. However, as a person who usually likes to follow trends I feel that the military inspired is slowly passing by. Naturally, basic trenches etc. are so common clothes nowadays that they will always be good to wear.

Seems like it's the bikers the designers are now looking up to when drawing their items..

So in the US it's completely 'out', as it is in Britain. But here in China the shiny metal buttons and epaulettes look is currently very 'in'. I believe the OP 'Hermes Man' is in Malaysia, not sure what's 'in' and and what's 'out' in that part of the world. Maybe similar to China.

Military style/fashion is pretty much dead in the water in most of the western world, but I agree with you in that I like the look. I remember a few years back Dior were producing military themed jackets and pants - I remember liking the style and hating the price.

You live near the equator, it is year round hot so dont bother with military style wool jackets or long coats unless you want to sweat your balls off. Be practical. Other option is join the army and wear real military gear

Edit:

Just noticed your blog and are looking at military themed pants / shirts. I would not bother with that Gucci outfit, order from plenty of Army Surplus stores in the States or Hunting apparel sites. It looks much much nicer than anything military themed Gucci produces, and cheaper as well. I know you like the brands, but when it comes to this type of apparel, brand really does not matter a damn in comparison to look and choice.
