A close girl friend and I are going out to lunch Friday during the day. I'll be on my break from work which is long enough. Being on 45th and Madison everything around us is pretty much a buffet/lunch/takeout type place. Does anyone know anything more formal (for lack of a better word) that is good for lunch and wouldn't need a reservation. It is not a romantic situation, she is just close and we won't be seeing eachother for about 3 months after Friday, so it needs to be better than the local salad bar. I'd ask coworkers but I am off tomorrow.

Oh and she's dying for a great cornbeef on rye.

What about walking up to Ma Peche or over to Oceana?

Easy to get a table upstairs at Mangia.

Why not just make a rez somewhere?

When I think of corned beef on rye I do not think of the word "formal," for lack of a better word or otherwise.

Isn't corned beef the lowest of the low in terms of meat?

I would take her to Le Bateau Ivre, but I am a Francophile.

The National looks like the winner. Now does anyone think I'll need a reservation for 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon?
