Midnight Blue Tuxedo -- What Do You Think?

These are rare, and usually seem to be worn by older men (i.e., 55+). What do you think. If they are otherwise classic -- peak lapels in black grosgrain, etc. -- are they less formal than black?

I don't see how they'd be less formal. The blue is very subtle. I personally think they look great.

Midnight is considered to be classic for formal attire except for white tie. Has more depth than black. I make around 8 out of 10 tuxedos in midnight rather than black for clients.

Interesting. Is this on recommendation/suggestion from you or do they decide it all their own? I didn't know you were a tailor.

Interesting, I've seen Senor Despos work on a midnight blue (looks black as night, as black can appear greenish) with black 'trimmings'- definitley says "bespoke" "custom" and/or I really know what I'm doing. It was a masterpiece! Bellissimo!

The tux soph saw was a wool and mohair barathea cloth. came out nice.

Mine is also a Mohair and Wool blend but it is more of a plain weave. I like mohair for formalwear. Actually, I like mohair a lot in general but it is not easy to wear except for formalwear.

I usually have one or two mohair suits in my closet. My favorite is a dark dark brown, almost black DB. I am making a grey stripe at the moment. For me, they are easier to wear if they have less sheen.
I love the crisp look and the body the cloth has.

Then, it's the "older men" who have good taste. If you have one (a midnight blue tux), you've hit the sartorial jackpot!
