I found this Midnight, shawl collar dinner jacket on the mace's website. I know that by almost anyone's standards it is unacceptable, but is this a viable option for a guy who has a choice between a horribly fitting rental or this with a pair of black tuxedo trouser.

I know it:
-is not pure wool
-has no satin on buttons
-two buttons
-double vented

But it is slim fit, and cheaper than a rental (sub $70)...
So any opinions?

That's fine, but not with black pants unless you want to look like the waiter.

What color pants would you suggest since the jacket is sold as a dinner jacket but not part of a suit? I thought black tux trousers would be the best option

I asked a similar question a while and the answer dont buy it if the same shop does not offer the matching pants. the price might be so low because the pants are missing in the first place.

Wearing this with black trouser will be horrible. Safe your money.

I love the color, but I think the lapel is far too narrow.

Ignore it. The trousers MUST be made from the same cloth otherwise you will look as bad as in a rental. Settle for the rental and try to go somewhere where they offer you something that fits.

It looks dreadful for the record.
