Middle-tier price tailors in London

Hi,

I am 32yrs and I live in London. I have 4 BOSS suits (I have read here how bad their reputation is :p). But, I would also like to have my first tailored suit.

I can easily find online about the top tailors in Savile Row, but the price for a proper suit exceeds the £1,800-2,000 threshold that I have set. I was wondering if you could recommend any good tailors in London that offer services within that price-bracket.

P.S: On a side note I have felt in love with this suit (jacket/trousers) from Burberry. But I am not sure if it is worth the price of £1,740 both, or I should wait for summer sales in order to buy it in a price that better reflects the quality and not the brand name.

Thank you very much

Haven't been there but Edward Sexton's Made to Measure is somewhere around that price. However, i'm pretty sure you would find an MTM suit that is much cheaper than that, and i doubt you can find that any fully bespoke suit that costs 1.800-2.000 in London, but maybe someone else knows more about it.

Some Savile Row operations have offshore bespoke options where the measuring and cutting is in their London storefronts but making is done in India or China. Whitcomb is discussed in this Permanent Style article https://www.permanentstyle.com/2016/02/whitcomb-shaftesbury-final-suit-great-value-bespoke.html

I think there are others. Look around. It seems like a strong value proposition. Very likely what I would do if I was in London and easily available for fittings.

Judging solely from pictures, the trousers seem to be rather low-waist (low rise) and yet slightly bell-bottomed. IMO, this is the opposite of what looks good on any man. On that basis alone, I would not recommend buying that suit.

Burberry, like all highly marketed, 'fashion'; brands, will tend to have a poor quality/price ratio. Once you find a good MtM fit, I guarantee that you'll get something much more flattering for less or equal money. Hell, Suit Supply will do a better job than that.

You can try Cad and the Dandy. Their pricing is online on their website with different tiers of fabric.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
