Michael Kors and Calvin Klein Brand Dilution

I've always been a bit puzzled by how many different lines and types of product brands like Michael Kors and Calvin sell. While not the best, I think Calvin Klein Collection and Kors' most expensive line are actually of decent quality.

But the distribution breakdown and promotion seems to be 99% of both brands' junk (i.e stuff found at Macys) and 1% of the good stuff. I bought a MK shirt from Macy's for 19.99 on sale once and it was possibly the worst dress shirt I ever wore.

Has this been their approaches historically?

Brand dilution? There's nothing to dilute. Kors and CK suits are all bollocks. Even the "high end" CK Collection stuff is fused

I'm assuming you know they sell more than suits. And I acknowledged that their high end collections aren't the best, but most things aren't; that's why there is allowed to be a best. Calvin Klein Collection still contains garments that I believe (which may be the start of the problem I suppose) are of decent quality and better than similarly priced competitors, like Hugo Boss. And the disparity between that and their junk is huge.

Also, brand dilution is a concept based entirely off of perception; not reality. To the general public and random Joe off the street I'd assert that Calvin Klein and Michael Kors are viewed as luxury brands. SF represents a very small population that possesses knowledge many standard deviations away from the average consumer.
