I'm going to be attending a networking event in Miami next month, the itinerary says the dress code for evening events is "Miami cocktail attire." What does this mean? I was thinking, as there's no way I'm wearing a suit in Miami, this is basically the same as what I'd wear to work, i.e., button collar colorful/checkered shirt, no tie + navy blue pants + brown shoes/belt. Any thoughts on this? What does Miami cocktail attire actually mean? I've searched google and can't find anything. Help! Thanks in advance

Someone made it up....it has no real meaning other then to show up in whatever you feel best describes Miami lounges.

Maybe a set of gold rope chains paired with a silk shirt and white linen pants.

Being a miami native, I'm sure most men will be sporting what you had anticipated. Some variation of a nice dress shirt, a sportscoat, no tie, and nice slacks. Loafers would be a nice touch.

Thanks. I'm thinking slim navy blue pants, open collar shirt, light blue blazer, brown shoes. Thoughts?

For some reason I was thinking a slim white suit but I'm a sucker for the obvious.

What you have in mind sounds perfect.

Sounds good. Like any big city, it depends on where you go, but in general you can get away w/ lighter materials and colors. Linen, cotton, loafers, unlined jackets, etc., work pretty much all year.
