This past weekend I happened to see a few of these shoes in a local shoe store and was able to see the cataloge. The website shows them fairly well, too.

Any opinions? Experiences? They didn't look like bad quality, and didn't feel bad either. Just curious.

I own a couple of pairs and I'm very happy with both, particularly for the price. Easily on par with Ferragamo. Stay away from some of the wierd styles, though.

I'd say Mezlan makes a darned good shoe, particularly for the money. More fashion-forward than the stalwart American brands like Johnston & Murphy, better quality than Kenneth Cole and a host of Italian "Prada-wannabe" brands.

They are good quality, hand-made shoes. I own a few loafers and oxfords. I actually preferred the fit of their patent formal pumps to Ferragamo's. My oldest Mezlans are about two years old, and don't look appreciably aged. (I do take care of my shoes, though.)

Why are they cheaper? Well, they're made in Spain, not Italy, so they lose the prestiege of the "Made in Italy" label. Both Spain and Italy have regions that are practically third-world in terms of infrastructure and labour costs.

Are you getting something of John Lobb or Ludwig Reiter quality? Not exactly. But as far as the value for money thing goes, Mezlans are probably just about at the sweet spot.

Peace,

JG

Speaking of which, I was debating the Mezlan vs. Ferragamo tux pumps for my wedding, until I saw the Sergio Rossi pumps. I'd have been fine whichever way I went, but Rossi's more contemporary profile is a better match with the Dior tux, I think. By the way...welcome back, Joe.
